Day 1: Kampala - Bwindi.

The safari begins and ends from Kampala or Entebbe. You will be picked from your hotel or residence at 08:00 am by your guide and head south-west to Bwindi Impenetrable National park. Drive to Mbarara (283 km from Kampala) via Masaka, you will make a first stop over at the Equator crossing for snacks and photography. A lunch break is made at Regency Hotel or Agip Motel in Mbarara. After lunch, your drive will take through Uganda undulating green hills through the high lands, also known as the “Switzerland of Uganda” Your road will subsequently head higher to where you can see the triangular peaks of the Virunga volcanoes of Rwanda and Congo.

You will then drop down into a valley to Bwindi impenetrable Forest, home of the mountain gorilla. Bwind Forest is one of the largest highland rain forests on earth, filled with primates and birds, valleys, hills and swamps filled with papyrus. You can also spend your afternoon having a walk around the village and see the local communities living around the park. Dinner and over night at the Gorilla resort, Uganda safari lodge, Mantana Tented Camp (High end/luxurious accommodation), or Lake Kitandara Tented Camp, Buhoma Homestead (Medium class accommodation) or the Community Banda’s (Low budget/basic accommodation).

Day 2: Gorilla Tracking.

You will have an early breakfast and get ready for trekking. Trekking begins at 8:00 am with a briefing from the Uganda Wild Life Authority staff. Ensure to carry along with you rain jacket, drinking water, snacks, jungle boots etc. The guides will lead you inside the jungle pushing your way through the undergrowth, parting thick creepers to track the gorillas; you will be able to sit around these great apes for a whole hour gazing into their big round eyes. It’s an extraordinary feeling sitting in the dense rainforest knowing you are with a few of the last remaining mountain gorillas, there are only about 650 of these creatures left!

Do not forget to take your lunch boxes and all the necessary gear to track these rare Mountain Gorillas, perhaps one of the most exciting wildlife experiences on earth. Tracking may take between 2 to 6 hours but its well worth the effort. Dinner and over night at either the Gorilla resort, /Mantana Tented Camp/(High and luxurious accommodation), or Lake Kitandara Tented Camp/Buhoma Homestead/(Medium class accommodation)/or the Community Banda’s (Low budget/basic accommodation).
