Tour Details: Based int he heart of the Kiskunsag National Park we will look for displaying Great Bustards and one of Europe’s largest populations of this enormous grassland species. Pre-breafast walks in and around the gardens of Kondor Eco Lodge will find such delights as Bee-eater, Golden Oriole, Hoopoe, Red-backed Shrike and Roller. Nearby we can find Wryneck, Syrian and Black Woodpeckers. A short night walk will have us lost to Scops Owl and Nightjar. The KIskunsag grassland is the typical habitat for Stone Curlew, Tawny Pipit and Lesser Grey Shrike; perfect hunting area for some great raptors such as Imperial Eagle, Red-footed and Saker Falcon. Here we can search for Collared Pratincole and Long-eared Owl, while nearby floodplain can hold Bittern, Spotted, Little and Corncrake, White-tailed Eagle, Pygmy Cormorant, Moustached Warblers and White-winged Terns.
Migrant birds will enhance our tour and we may be lucky with a trip of Dotterel. Mammal we will look for include Roe Deer, Brown Hare, Eastern Hedgehog, European Souslik, Russian/Eversmann’s Polecat, Southern Birch Mouse, Root Vole, Pond Bat, Otter and Badger. Many species of butterfly will be sought such as Southern Festoon, Provencal Short-tailed Blue, Alcon Blue, Freyer’s Purple Emperor. Dragonflies will be numerous, including Red-eyed, Azure, Variable and White-legged Damselfly, Ruddy & Spotted Darter, Four-spotted Chaser, Black-tailed Skimmer, Downy Emerald, Scarce Chaser, Norfolk or Green-eyed Hawkers, Lilypad Whiteface. Our moth lights will keep us busy and amongst the wealth of flowers we will look for Green-winged Orchid and Siberian and Dwarf Iris. We have such bird-species like: Roller, Bee-eater, Golden Oriole, Hoopoe, Nightjar, Scops Owl, 6 Woodpecker, Great Bustard, Stone Curlew, Imperial, Short-toed, White-tailed Eagle, Red-footed, Saker Falcon, Long-legged Buzzard, Collared Pratincole, 3 marsh Terns, Pygmy Cormorant, Ferruginous Duck, Black-necked Grebe, Squacco, Purple Heron, Spoonbill, Spotted, Little, Corncrake, Great Reed, Savi's, Moustached and River Warbler, Common Cranes, Lesser White-fronted, Red-breasted, Brant Geese, Horned Lark, Twite, Snow and Lapland Bunting Butterfly species: Alcon Blue, Freyer's Purple Emperor, Southern Festoon, Swallowtail, Scarce Swallowtail, Comma, Esper's Marbled White, Marbled White bugacensis, Tree Grayling, False Ringlet, Provencal Short-tailed Blue, and many more Dragonfly species: Red-eyed, Azure, Variable and White-legged Damselfly, Ruddy and Spotted Darter, Four-spotted Chaser, Black-tailed Skimmer, Downy Emerald, Scarce Chaser, Emperor and Lesser Emperor, Norfolk/Green-eyed Hawkers, Lilypad Whiteface. Wildflowers species: Early Spider, Bug, Toothed, Green-winged Orchid, White Helleborine, Siberian and Dwarf Iris, Artemesia santonicum, Achillea collina, Scorzonera parviflora, Siberian Statice, Plantago schwarzenbergiana, Camphorosma annua. Tour Itinerary: Day 1: Fly from UK, arrive to Budapest. Drive to Kiskunsag looking for Great Bustard along the way. Day 2 - 6: Based in our beautiful Eco-Lodge in the heart of the Kiskunsag National Park, we will explore many varied habitats looking for a wide variety of specialty birds and other forms of wildlife.
