The Subasio Mountain is a thick calcareous. It is also said to be the mountain of Assisi because here is the famous village where San Francis was born. The places to be visited are numerous medieval suburbs as Collepino, with natural beauties which can be found in the summit of the mountain and the “Hermitage of the Jails”, place of meditation and silence where S. Francis choose to retire.
From the Subasio Mountain many paths are issued by to cross for long walks afoot, departing from characteristic suburbs as Armenzano, Collepino, S. Giovanni, that allows to reach the lawns, where it is possible to glimpse every now and then nice little animals such as the woodpecker, the squirrel, the porcupine or the wild cat. The Subasio M. is also rich of historical-artistic testimonies as the Castle of Armenzano or the strengthened suburb of Collepino. The classical itinerary that we offer you gives the possibility to visit the described places in a whole day trip, they can be done by foot or by car. The visit of the territory can stretch for a whole week-end visiting other beauties as the still working watermill of Valentine, the throat of the Ditch of the Marchetto and other small medieval suburbs as Spello and Collepino.
