Day 1: Guatemala City - Antigua Guatemala. Reception at the airport “La Aurora”, upon arrival transfer to your hotel in Antigua Guatemala for overnight accommodations. Casa Santo Domingo or similar.
Day 2: Antigua Guatemala. Visit to the most important and significant attractions of the city including Antigua’s most beautiful churches, monasteries, convents, and the cultural center. Day 3: Iximche and Chichicastenango. Visit to the archaeological site of Iximché, the place where the first capital of Guatemala was founded and the last Mayan City. Transfer to Chichicastenango’s Market. In the center of town is the local market where you can buy wood products, ceramics and even gifts that the Mayan priests offer on their pre-Hispanic altars. You can also admire the Church of Santo Tomas which was built by Dominicans and Kichen in the year of 1540 on a Maya altar, which even today is used on the front steps of the church. On the other side is Calvary Church, in the square you can see a high stick where they have done each year the presentation of the Palo Volador. Transfer to Panjachel for overnight accommodations. Day 4: Lake Atitlan. Upon arrival to Panajachel we will take a private boat to cross Lake Atitlan and visit the Tzutuhil Village of Santiago de Atitlan. In this village you will visit the confraternity of the local saint named Maximon or Ri Laj Mam, visited by different people of different ethnicities who come to ask health and prosperity in their lives. Day 5: Copan. Visit to the Mayan site of Copan or the “Kingdom of the Sun”, dates from the Maya Classic period (300 to 900 AD) where can still be seen several stone sculptures, specially dedicated to the ruler “18 Rabbits”who was beheaded in Quirigua Guatemala. Ceremonial temples can be seen as of the Inscriptions, the Popol Nah or Casa del Pueblo, the ball game and residential areas. Marina Copan Hotel or similar. Includes: (B).
Day 6: Quirigua. Visit to the archaeological site of Quiriguá known for the tallest stelae in the Mayan World. The character that stands out is Kak Chan Tiliw Yopa, also known as Heaven Kawak, several of the stelae represent this character is also very important show Stela “C” which talks about the start of the fifth cycle begins Maya some 3,000 years before Christ until 21 December. The end of the Mayan Calendar gives emphasis to the Maya civilization and the world. Transfer to Rio Dulce for overnight accommodations. Banana Palms Hotel or similar. Includes: (B).
Day 7: Rio Dulce. Boat trip from Rio Dulce to Livingston. On the way visit to the Isle of Birds, Aj-Tenamit Project, Kekchi origin population, likewise can be a stop for 20 minutes or half an hour in the area of sulphurous or hot waters, near the entrance of the canyon of Rio Dulce. At the end of the journey the river mouth will reach the Caribbean Sea “La Buga” Livingston, a population of African origin that was originally called La Buga which means La Boca. Day 8: Tikal. Transfer to one of the most important archaeological sites of the Mayan World, Tikal, its name means “Place of Voices”, built during the Maya Classic Period. Upon arrival at Tikal archaeological site, our guide will show you the layout of the complex of Temples and Acropolis. Visit to the Complex Q and R, then to the Central Acropolis, Temples I “El Gran Jaguar and the Temple II” Los Mascarones, regarded as the first and one of the most important monuments in the complex. Day 9: Yaxha. Transfer to Yaxha, a former ceremonial center and city of the Pre-Columbian Maya Civilization. The facilities have evidence of Teotihuacan influence in their architecture and stelae. We can find the only twin pyramid complex outside of Tikal, also known as the Stelae Plaza. After lunch boat trip to Topoxte island, located in the Lake of Yaxha. After we finish the tour, transfer to the aiport to take flight back to Guatemala City. Vista Real Hotel or similar.
