Your stay at Saladero includes use of kayaks, snorkel and fishing equipment, hammocks and lounge chairs, free of charge. Guests may choose among a wide variety of activities ranging from adventurous to just plain relaxing. Guests at Saladero receive a complimentary guided tour of the property after they are settled in to introduce them to the flora and fauna of the area.
We also talk about the fascinating symbiotic relationships between plants, animals and insects in the primary rainforest and why saving it is so important to our future. We grow a large part of our own fruits which are enjoyed by guests and birds alike. Our 15 acres of lush cultivated gardens provide host to a wide range of edible plant species including citrus, banana, plantain, avocado, starfruit, guanabana, jackfruit, mango, heart of palm, ginger, papaya, pineapple, yucca, cashew, almond and water apple. There are also medicinal plants like noni, aloe and hombre grande. Birding (more than 300 species of birds): Due to the abundant fruits, and the diversity of Piedras Blancas National Park, a wide range of birds can be spotted on any given day. The primary rainforest area comprising Saladero supports hundreds of different species of birds, including the Fiery-billed Aracari and the Blue-crowned Motmot featured to the right as well as Scarlet Macaws, and a variety of trogons. Toucans and tanagers abound and the delightful "chip-chip" of hummingbirds can be heard every mornings and evenings. Bring your field guide and binoculars and you will surely be delighted by the diversity. Relaxing (and a great place to do it): Feel like doing nothing? We get it. It's your vacation and your time to do what you want to, just relax, breathe the fragrant tropical air and nourish the soul. Read a book on the beach. Take a nap in the hammock. Hang out and scan the gulf for dolphins. The beauty of relaxing at Saladero is there's still plenty to experience while just taking it easy.
