Los Llanos is a gigantic area of plain in eastern Colombia which extends right up to the Venezuelan frontier. It is composed of vast estate farms, wide rivers and green fields whose only limit is the horizon. With it, the Amazon region takes up over half the total area of Colombia. The Amazon and her numerous tributaries flows through the jungle, crossing several national parks and immense savannahs, enabling the visitor to see the jungle and the secrets it holds. Leticia is the base for a number of environmental research projects, while Villavicencio, the region's other major city, is the gateway to Los Llanos.
