Ngorongoro Crater is the planet’s largest sunken volcano crater or un-flooded caldera. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1978. The area formed a million years ago. The caldera floor covers 260 square kilometers (100 square miles) in size, is eighteen to twenty kilometers in diameter and about six hundred meters deep. The original source of name for the area is unclear, though one popular legend claims that Ngorongoro was the name of a famous Masai cattle bell maker who lived in the crater. Another legend claims that it was named after the Datoga warriors who defeated the Masai in a battle in the caldera floor around 1840. A third version says that the area was named after the first group of Masai to arrive in the area.

This tour also will take you to this unique and special place on our planet with two wonderful nights in Ngorongoro, allowing you enough time to visit with and experience traditional Maasai people. Four nights in Serengeti will give you an experience of this blessed land and one night each in Manyara and Tarangire National Parks enable you to see small and large mammals, plus many beautiful and colorful birds. Accommodations can be at standard or luxury lodges, luxury tented camps or a special mobile camp.
