Stretched across the country, there are no mountains that gave rise to so many stories and legends like Ceahlau Mountains. Fame lies not only in the detailed architecture of the stones which has stirred people's imagination, but also through its imposing appearance being as a headlight seen from a distance. Toaca Peak-like an Egyptian pyramid is a proof of perfect symmetry, while Ocolasul Mare although, the highest one, is leaning humble towards Toaca peak. The local people are carrying on the legends and stories about the ancient Dacian Gods and evil spirits. On our hikes we will see these legends become alive through the panoramic views, the cliffs with strange shape, the waterfalls, the lakes, and the monasteries. The spirit and the peace that overwhelm these mountains will cut their way into your minds in the days that you will spend on these lands.
Day 1: Bucharest - Ploiesti - Brasov. From the airport we will head towards Brasov, one of the largest medieval cities of Transylvania. Here we will visit the old center of Brasov, The Black Church, which is not famous only for its dimensions (the largest religious edifice in Gothic Style from the South-East of Europe), but also for the biggest bell and organ of Romanian Churches, The White and The Black Tours of Brasov (used for preventing the villagers when the enemies came closer), The Rope Street (the narrowest street from Europe which was created for the firefighters quick access), and the Schei Gate.
Day 2: Brasov - Miercurea Ciuc - Bicaz - Durau. After breakfast we will head towards Durau, a holiday resort situated on the foothills of Ceahlau Mountains at the 780 - 800 m height, famous for its traditions and legends. For centuries, around the Ceahlau Mountains there were many hermitages and caves were the hermits prayed. From these, only the Durau Monastery survived through time. After visiting the monastery and a delicious meal, in the evening, sitting around the fire, we will listen stories and legends about Ceahlau Mountains. In the evening, the stories and the legends of Ceahlau Mountains will keep us breathless.
Day 3: Trekking in Ceahlau Mountains nearby the frightful roaring Duruitoarea Waterfall, which announces its presence long before being seen by its frightful roar. You can climb a wooden ladder of 30 meters from the base in order to see the panoramic view of the waterfall from above. Moreover, on the path towards Dochia Chalet we will admire the legendary “Piatra Lacrimata”, which has a special shape and it is used as a reference point for all the mountains routes.
Day 4: Today we will admire the sunrise from the Toaca Peak, having at our feet the alpine sea of the clouds. We will enter the scientific reservation, The Ocolasul Mare Peak, one of the areas protected by the National Park of Ceahlau, known for its diversified fauna and flora, rivers, and cliffs. Here, the only hunters that are allowed to enter are the photo hunters.
Day 5: We will continue to be amazed by the fascinating architectural style of nature by admiring the guardian rock Santinela, Vulturul lui Traian - an eagle carved into the mountain, Dochia's cliff, representing the outline of an old woman. Their image will tremble under the waves of our boat on the Izvorul Muntelui Lake, the mirror of the Ceahlau Mountains. In the evening we will see the sunset in the deep and red water of the Red Lake.
Day 6: We will explore The Black Cave and The Waterfall Cave (here you can only crawl inside the cave), admire Bicaz Gorges shaped by the river with the same name. Last but not least you will have the opportunity to climb the surrounding mountains on challenging trails.
