Taking this beautiful cycling tour, you will ride from Budapest to Vienna, along the nicest areas of Lake Balaton and Lake Ferto, picturesque landscapes and historic wine regions, through untouched woods, and charming villages of West Hungary. You will visit the famous Herend Porcelain Manufacture, splendid castles and churches, nicest medieval towns: Koszeg and Sopron, the healing Thermal Lake Heviz, and interesting museums, stay in wonderfully located castles and small hotels with special atmosphere, and taste excellent Hungarian wines and gourmet meals in small but outstanding restaurants.
Day 1: Your hotel is centrally situated at the Danube on Buda side with a lovely view. You will meet your tourguide, have information about the tour, and dinner in the hotel.
Day 2: Budapest to Tihany. We visit the world famous Herend Porcelain Manufactory. After this experience we cycle down the hills to the Tihany Peninsula which is one of the most beautiful points of Lake Balaton with a famous Benedictine Abbey. After arriving at our lovely family hotel, we take a walk among the charming thatch-roofed houses and souvenir shops, enjoy a wonderful view, and have a delicious dinner in the cosy restaurant of our hotel (cycling 24 km/15 m approximately).
Day 3: Lake Balaton. We cycle along the Northern Side of the biggest lake of Middle Europe, and the most visited resort area of Hungary. We can see some of Hungary’s most beautiful landscapes, the breathtaking panorama of the lake and the volcanic hills. Riding among vineyards all around, we reach the famous Badacsony wine region, and then we get to a beautiful castle hotel, where we stay two nights (cycling 51 km/32 m approximately).
Day 4: Keszthely and Heviz. In Keszthely we visit the beautiful Festetics castle with a scenic English Garden, rich furniture, and its biggest treasure, the Helikon Library. We go to Heviz, and dip into the second biggest thermal lake of the world. It is the most famous health resort of Hungary, wellknown throughout Europe as well. The wooden buildings and plenty of water-lilies on the lake make the sight even more beautiful. After getting cured in the healing water, we go back to our hotel.
Day 5: From Castle to Castle. We continue our tour in the nature along sleeping hamlets and softly undulating lands, through beautiful woods. We stop at a lovely old inn to taste their local specialities. We ride further to a beautiful small castle from the 19th cenury with luxurious rooms and a nice ambience provided by the surrounding park. (cycling 56 km/35 m approximately).
Day 6: Koszeg and the Irott Ko Nature Park. We ride towards the foothills of the Alps, where we visit a unique museum among nice vineyards. Then we cycle along the wonderful forests of the Irottko Nature Park with smashing views. We take a walk among the ancient houses of the pretty town Koszeg, and get to our lovely small hotel with a nice swimming pool, and a cosy restaurant (cycling 35 km/22 m approximately).
Day 7: Riding to a Great Hungarian. Cycling through beautiful woods and fields, we get to a village, where „the greatest Hungarian”, Count István Széchenyi, a prominent statesman of the 19th century lived. It is worth seeing the museum in his former castle, which shows his outstanding work developing Hungary, and many of world-famous Hungarian inventions. We stay for two nights near Lake Ferto in a Castle Hotel from the 18th century. Dinner we have in the most special restaurant of the area (cycling approximately 61 km/38 m).
Day 8: Sopron and Lake Ferto. We take a walk in a wonderful antique world surrounded by the original city walls in town Sopron. We cycle through a lovely wood to Lake Ferto, one of the most interesting wild water areas of Central Europe. We take a boat trip, and we look at an interesting quarry with enormous halls, and a beautiful view of the Lake. We taste some of the finest wines of the region with our dinner in the excellent restaurant again (approximately 23 km/14 m cycling).
Day 9: Sopron to Vienna. We cycle among picturesque wineyards and villages along the lake, stop in the pretty town Rust which is famous for its storks, and then ride in the Ferto National Park, to the northernmost part of the lake. We get to Vienna, where we stay at a nice small hotel, an Art Nouveau building of the 19th century with a beautiful garden in the finest residential area, not far from the famous Grinzing wine area, where we have our farewell dinner in a nice restaurant (cycling: 45 km/28 m approximately).
Day 10: After breakfast you can enjoy the nice atmosphere of the hotel, and have some free time in Vienna, and we hope that you will return home - or to Budapest with us - with very nice memories.
