Iwokrama International Center for Rainforest Conservation and Development manages the nearly one million acre (371000 hectares) Iwokrama Forest in central Guyana to show how tropical forests can be conserved and sustainably used to provide ecological, social and economic benefits to local, national and international communities. The Iwokrama Forest and the Rupununi Wetlands and savannahs offer visitors the opportunity for an exceptional natural and cultural experience set in a learning context.
The 154 meter (505 feet) state-of-the-art Canopy Walkway envelopes you in the jungle's mid-level canopy from heights of up to 30 meters (98 feet). If you visit at dusk or dawn, you'll have the best chance to see birds like the Green Aracari, Scarlet Macaw, Guiana Toucanette or Channel-bill Toucan. Red Howler Monkeys may also be observed. Tour Itinerary: Day 1: Depart Georgetown 06:00 via four wheel drive vehicles entering the trail to Lethem/Brazil; arrive at the mighty Essequibo River crossing of Kurupukari/Iwokrama Reserve. Lunch. Tour of Iwokrama Rainforest Field Station. Dinner. Night trek. Overnight. Eco lodges. Day 2: Coffee. Early morning departure for tour of Canopy walkway and surrounding areas; return to Field Station for lunch before departing for Georgetown, arriving approximately 18:00.
