Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: The Grand View Garden. This journey begins in Shanghai. If you need advice or assistance getting to Shanghai then please contact us. We drive out to the Da Guan Yuan Grand View Garden, constructed to resemble the fictional gardens described in the novel "A Dream of Red Mansions" by Cao Xueqin. Many of the major scenes have been reproduced from the text making for an unusual and interesting visit whether or not you have actually read the book. We return to the suburb of Zhujiajiao a water-town with a whole host of sites including picturesque bridges and gardens. Our ticket covers a boat trip and the pick of these sites. Meals: lunch, dinner. Day 2: Museum under the Oriental Pearl Tower. Our first visit today is to the Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) within the University of TCM. Here you can learn about the history of TCM as well as the main principles. There are many interesting displays of the vast range of instruments and products used. The Oriental Pearl Tower dominates the skyline of Pudong district across the Huangpu River from the Bund. We ride up to the highest observation level (the Space Module) 350 meters up. We will also have time to visit some of the exhibitions on the other floors. In the afternoon we visit Fuxing Park formerly known as French Park given that it was privately owned by some residents of the French Concession. The park is popular with the new residents and you will be able to see many forms of local recreation for all ages. We finish with an air-conditioned cruise on the Huangpu River on the section between Huangpu Bridge and Wusongkou. Relax and enjoy the sites on both banks. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Day 3: Journey's End. Our first excursion takes us to Dongtai Road where the local Antiques Market still flourishes and provides much interest beyond the artifacts on offer. Do not expect to find great treasures here but you may well find something to delight. Our next stop is Duolun Road with its classical architecture and where so many 20th century celebrities lived. Our last visit is to Cheng Huang Miao (the City God Temple). This temple has a long history and a promising future now that it has been incorporated into a large tourist complex. Note: The day's activities are planned to end mid-afternoon. You can therefore plan to continue your travels this evening. If you want to stay in the city for a bit longer to do your own thing then you can easily book extra nights at the same hotel with us. Notes: Prices:
