Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: To Chengde. This journey begins in Beijing. If you need advice or assistance getting to Beijing then please contact us. We take the train out to Chengde, the summer capital for much of the Qing Dynasty period. We will use this as our base for the next two nights. Please note: Although we generally use soft seat class for short journeys there are none available on trains during the day. Rather than have a very early morning start we have chosen to use hard-sleeper berths instead. Since you will be on the train over the lunch-time you are advised to bring your own food. You may use the dining car if you prefer. Meals: dinner. Day 2: A Full Day At Chengde. We will have time to explore the main site today, leaving tomorrow free for another treat. In no set order we will visit the following, and other sites as time permits. The Summer Resort: Built over a period of nearly 90 years back in the 18th century this resort is, by far, the largest imperial garden anywhere. Tucked away in the Yanshan Mountains the resort features palaces and extensive gardens. Puning Temple: This "Big Buddha Temple" is one of the Eight Outer Temples of Chengde. Its design takes after the Samye Temple in Tibet. The Lesser Potala Palace: This blatant copy is almost as impressive as the original and will be the highlight of the trip for many. Few will believe that it was built in only 4 years. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Day 3: Return to Beijing. We have the morning to explore the site further. In the early afternoon we catch the train back to Beijing. After check-in you can go out and explore Beijing by evening. Tomorrow you can continue with the next leg of your journey. Meals: breakfast, lunch. Day 4: Journey's end. This Journey ends after breakfast. Check-out is usually 12:00 (noon). Notes: Prices:
