Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: The Big Buddha from above. This journey begins in Chengdu. If you need advice or assistance getting to Chengdu then please contact us. We drive along the expressway to Leshan where we break up the journey with a stop at the Dafo, Big Buddha. Enjoy a variety of views. We will take a boat trip to see the Big Buddha from the river and then we will enter the site where you can see the Big Buddha from above and below.

We will continue towards the south gate and visit the delightful monastery perched high up on the cliff-tops. This gives us an excuse to cross the lovely bridge here and possibly see the local style fishing nets in action. We stay overnight in Leshan. Few visitors do and so this is an opportunity for you to see something of a normal Chinese town after dark. Meals: lunch, dinner.

Day 2: Cable-car to the summit. Today we continue to Emei Shan. We will drive up to the last permitted car park leaving only a short walk up to the cable car station. You can then enjoy spectacular views as we ascend the last few hundred meters with ease. We will stay at a hotel near the summit. This allows us an unhurried wander around the various temples and viewing platforms. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Day 3: Back down for a treat. We rise early to enjoy the sunrise. We can hope for clouds below us as these may give rise to the phenomenon known as Buddha's Halo. Known as a Brockenspectre in Germany, and elsewhere, this is a shadow on the clouds with a bright ring around head. After breakfast we will take the cable-car back down to the car park. We will then continue with only day packs for a hike down the mountain.

En-route we will see some gorgeous natural scenery as well as man-made splendors, including ancient temples. We make one detour: to visit Monkey Valley where the Macaques can been see up close. You may find the antics of your fellow humans equally amusing. At the bottom we have a short drive to our accommodation for the night. For a treat we will stay at a resort with hotsprings. A visit to these is included so that you can soothe away any aches from the day. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

4: Journey's end. This Journey ends after breakfast. Check-out is usually 12:00 (noon). We return to Chengdu. You can be taken anywhere downtown or to the airport.
