Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival. Arrival at Keflavik airport. Transfer to your hotel in Reykjavik with airport shuttle. Day 2: Reykjavik - Hvolsvollur. The first day of the round tour starts with a short (1.5 hours) city tour around Reykjavik. Among places we will see are the old harbor, the city center, Hallgrimskirkja church and the Pearl. Then we continue to Þingvellir (Parliament Plaines), the location of the old parliament and a geological phenomenon. From there we drive to the Geyser geothermal area for a spouting hot spring and to Gullfoss, the Golden Waterfall, where on a sunny day you can see a rainbow in the spray above the waterfall. From there we proceed to our overnight stay. Day 3: Hvolsvollur - Vik. We start our second day by visiting the waterfalls of Seljarlandsfoss and Skogarfoss. Then we stop to visit the museum at Skogar. From there we continue to the beautiful scenery of Iceland's South Shore such as bird life at Dyrholaey, the rocks of Reynisdrangar, Solheimajokull glacier and black sands. Day 4: Vik - Hofn. On the third day the trip continues over the lava of the Laki eruption in 1782-1783 and the black sands towards the oasis at Skaftafell national park close to Vatnajokull, Europe's biggest glacier. At Skaftafell we take a walk towards the beautiful waterfall Svartifoss and another walk to the glacier tongue. From there we drive to the Glacier Lagoon (Jokulsarlon) for a boat tour between the icebergs (included in price). Day 5: Hofn - Egilsstadir. Now the tour continues along the beautiful coastal region of the East Fjords, with spectacular landscape, high mountains and deep fjords. We will stop at Stodvarfjordur where we will visit the extraordinary stone collection of Petra. Day 6: Egilsstadir - Myvatn. From Egilsstadir we drive over mountain roads to the magnificent waterfall Dettifoss, Europe's mightiest waterfall. From there we visit the natural phenomenon Asbyrgi. Then we continue towards the town of Husavik before driving to Lake Myvatn, one of the most interesting geological and geographical areas of the northern hemisphere. At Lake Myvatn we will visit for example the lava labyrinth Dimmuborgir and the pseudo crater group at Skutustadir. Day 7: Myvatn - Hrutafjordur. Today we will continue to explore the Lake Myvatn area and visit lava that is still warm almost 30 years after the eruption. From the Lake Myvatn area we drive to Akureyri where we will spend few hours and from Akureyri the tour goes to Hrutafjordur for our overnight stay. Day 8: Hrutafjordur - Snaefellsnes. Today the tour continues around the Snaefellsnes peninsula and its magnificent glacier Snaefellsjokull. Among places that we wisit are basaltic pebble beach, framed with strange lava formations, and Arnarstapi, where a short stroll along the coastal cliffs gives us access to the rich birdlife and other wonders of nature. Day 9: Snaefellsnes - Reykjavik. Today we head towards Reykjavik to close our circle. First stop is at the old volcano Grabrok where we take a walk to the top. There we continue to Hraunfossar (Lava waterfalls) and Barnafossar (Children´s waterfalls). Then we will visit Deildartunguhver, Europe´s water most hot spring. From there the tour goes directly to Reykjavik trough the Whale fjord (Hvalfjordur). Day 10: Departure. Departure transfer to Keflavik airport with airport shuttle.
