Get the best of Morocco on your bike. Take this challenge, and discover this amazing north African country in close contact with the local Berber culture. Our route includes several tracks (the famous “pistes”) to get into the wide plains and Sahara Desert (where we will sleep in a typical tent) discovering the southern Morocco. If you have a non-cyclist companion, she/he may follow the same itinerary until the desert in 4x4 vehicle.
And in the end you will spend some time in the enchanting city of Marrakech that will stay in your mind! Free day to visit Marrakech. Lodging: Hotel B&B in Marrakech Day 2: Atlas crossing Marrakech - Teulouat | Ait Ben Haddou - Quarzazate (optional 44 km / 27 mi | 2-3 h) Transfer to Teulouat at 1920 m/ 6300 ft of altitude. (Optional) You can make a downhill ride of 44 km/ 27 mi, on your bike, to Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified city, UNESCO world heritage site, located at an altitude of 1290 m/ 4232ft, and where you can visit its Kasbah (medina). Then you will have a 4X4 transfer to Ouarzazate (35 km/ 22 mi, approx. 30 min). Lodging: Hotel in Ouarzazate Day 3: Quarzazate - Agdz | Nkhila (126 km / 78 mi | +1522 m / 5092 ft - short option 55 km / 34 mi or 94 km / 58 mi | + 1300 m / 4265 ft) 4x4 transfer to Agdz (60 km/ 37 mi, approx. 45 min). The first part of today’s stage will take you from Agdz to Nhila through Oued valley. On your way you will pass by several typical villages of this region. Pause for a refreshing picnic. The second part of this stage takes you to the dunes ending at 94 km/ 58 mi (1300 m/ 4265 ft | -1250 m/ 4101 ft). At the 90 km/ 66 mi, and if you get to this point before 14 h, you can opt to do a level 2 route, for another 36 km/ 22.4 mi (total 126 km/ 78.3 mi). Lodging: Nomad camp in Nkhila dune (shower available) Day 4: Nkhila - mhamid | chgaga (90 km / 56 mi - short option 65 km / 40 mi) 4x4 transfer to Mhamid surroundings (approx. 1h). The stage starts bordering the desert and crossing some of its dunes where you will have a pause for water and snacks. Then you will start rolling through the steppe and halfway you will have pause for a picnic. After that you will be back on our bike in a sandy track that will take you to Chgaga. Whoever gets there before 15 h and wants to ride a bit more, will have the opportunity of linking to the next stage of 25 km/ 16 mi (+60 m / +197 mi | -60 m / -197 mi with sand!). This can also be done at night or soon after dawn, with a spectacular sunrise in the desert! Lodging: Nomad camp in Chgaga (shower available) Day 5: Chgaga | Ait - Marrakech (22 km / 14 mi - short option 12 km / 8 mi) Today you will follow to the Tuaregs region in a track with about 12 km/ 8 mi until you reach the first nomad school, where you can offer some material to the children and their teacher. You will also visit some Tuareg families. After that you’ll have the option of riding 6 more miles (10 km) to the next school or do them in 4x4 vehicles. There you can offer some more materials to the students and their teacher. 4x4 transfer to Marrakech (approx. 6 h) Lodging: Hotel B&B in Marrakech Day 6: Marrakech Free day to visit Marrakech. Don’t miss its famous square, Jemaa el-Fna, where, day and night, hundreds of storytellers gather. UNESCO recognized this tradition and the square was proclaimed as Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, for sheltering rich oral and intangible traditions.
