Take some days off and discover the only National Park in Portugal. Walk by the dense oak forests and listen the water falling down the granite rocky streams. Walk through the old paths connecting traditional villages where you can learn about their ancient way of life and traditions of “Barroso” people. Get to know the handmade art of working the iron in Joe's workshop, your host. And you still have the chance to visit, Pitões das Júnias, its monastery and climb to the S. João da Fraga Chapel for exceptional views. The Peneda-Gerês Park is part of the European PAN Park network, the most pristine areas of Europe.

The accommodation and surroundings:

With a magnificent location, right at Peneda Gerês National Park, all rooms offer a spectacular view of the roughest massive of rock at Gerês Mountains, whose majestic forms seem to emerge from the calm waters of Paradela dam. This landscape wakes us a mix of emotions, the call for contemplation and impulse to discover this inhospitable and beautiful scenery. Being at the Lodge is much more than just staying in a hotel. It is the ability to dive into a series of experiences where time can be shared between enjoying the surrounding nature and contacting with the work and knowledge of the hosts, with their sympathy to show and teach us some of the ancient art of working with iron and wood.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Outeiro. Optional transfers from the airport to Outeiro (approx. 1h30m). Located in Gerês National Park, Outeiro has a natural beauty that can be explored at every step you take, characterized by dense and diverse vegetation and large masses of rock with peculiar shapes. Overnight and dinner: Lodge in Outeiro (rural house).

Day 2: Trilho de Paradela (21 km, h 7), Today we propose the Paradelas trail, characterized by the distinctive beautiful landscapes of Gerês Mountains. The trail begins in Outeiro village, passes by Paradela dam, which started its operation in 1956 and is feed by Cávado river waters. Along the way you will pass by beautiful farm fields and by the colourful heather, thyme and tojais fields, a typical underbrush of this mountains. In this day you can also do an Iron Art workshop. Overnight and dinner: Lodge in Outeiro (rural house).

Day 3: Outeiro - Pitões (6 km, 5h). Today’s trail goes to Pitões. You will see the Fojo do Lobo do Outeiro, made of a granite wall around a boulder, formerly used to hunt wolves, trapping them inside. The trail follows trough fields of oak trees. You will have the opportunity to visit the Santa Maria das Júnias Monastery, from the 9th century, to see the beautiful Júnia de Pitões waterfall and in the end, the attractive village of Pitões de Júnias, will be waiting for you! On this day you can also choose one of our activities, a historical/archaeological guided walk or a Shepherd Route guided walk. Overnight and dinner: Lodge in Outeiro (rural house)

Day 4: Trilho de Tourém (3.5 km, 2.5 h). Today´s walk will be a relaxed and easy one starting at of Tourém, a Portuguese village in the middle of Spanish territory. Besides visiting this beautiful village and its community oven, you will see the Salas dam, whose waters cover a large amount of Portuguese and Spanish territory. If you prefer, on this day you can also choose one of our activities, a historical/archaeological guided walk or a Shepherd Route guided walk. Overnight and dinner: Lodge in Outeiro (rural house).

Day 5: Porto. Optional transfers to the airport.
