Tour Itinerary:
Day 1 - Arrival at Addis Ababa
Arrive Addis Ababa and meet one of our representatives in the Airport and transfer to your hotel. Overnight Global/Ghion hotel 4*(D)
Day 2 - Bahir Dar
An hour's flight takes you to Bahir Dar, (Set at 1,830 m. above sea level) an attractive town with tree-lined avenues and the deep blue lake in the background. Lake Tana is Ethiopia's largest lake and is dotted with islands which dated back to the 14th century, hosting precious Christian manuscripts, crosses and paintings of the medieval time.
After check in the hotel Depart by boat to visit the Zege peninsula for monasteries of Ura Kidanemihret and Azewa Mariam, to see mural paintings, crowns, crosses etc. On the way back to Bahir Dar see place where the Blue Nile River and Lake Tana join. Overnight Tana Hotel (B, L, D)
Day 3 - Bahir Dar
After breakfast drive to the Blue Nile falls and visit the local market, the Woito village (where the local people make the Papyrus boat) and after lunch break drive to Gondar. Overnight Goha Hotel (B, L, D)
Days 4 - Gondar
Full day in Gondar- visit the castle compound of King Fasiladas and the church of Debre Berhan Selassie, rich with its mural paintings, the Bath of king Fasiledes and Kusquam Mariam church Overnight Goha hotel (B, L, D)
Day 5 - Gondar Tekeze valley
Drive to Axum through the spectacular semien mountain national park chains and the Tekezze Valley. Overnight Rehmay Hotel (B, L, D)
Day 6 - Axum
Full day in the town of Axum once one of the four great powers of the ancient world. We will see the remarkable stele or obelisks, the largest single pieces of stone standing anywhere on the world. There are also tombs and castles of former monarchs, the Axum Museum and Mariam Tsion Church, built on the site of Ethiopia's first church.
A chapel within the church compound is believed by Ethiopian Orthodox Christians to house the Ark of the Covenant, or the original tablets of Moses. Our tour starts with a visit to the museum and the stele. Then you ascend a hill to see the castle of King Kalab, passing Mai Shum (the bath of the Queen of Sheba) on the way. Coming back into town, you will see the tomb of King Basen, visit the small museum inside the church grounds, and end the day at the site known as 'Queen Sheba's Palace'. Day 7 - Debre Damo monastery
Drive to Mekele-en route visit Debredamo monastery the first sub Saharan Christian church (allowed only for men)-Yeha Temple-a pagan temple of the 5th C BC and Aba Garima monastery-a monastery founded by one of the 9 saints from Syria. Overnight Axum Hotel(B, L, D)
Day 8 - Lalibela and cave churches
Drive to Lalibela-(Set at 2,600 masl) en route visit the famous cave church-Yimrhane Kiristos-it means in English-let Christ lead us a church built in the time of Zaghwe dynasty of the 13th century by King Yimrhane. Overnight Roha Hotel (B, L, D)
Day 9 - Lalibela
Full day in Lalibela -At the end of the 12th and beginning of the 13th centuries, King Lalibela of the Zaghwe dynasty built a series of rock hewn churches, rightly acknowledged as one of the wonders of the world. Visit the first group of churches, second group of churches, which represent the Heavenly Jerusalem... Overnight Roha Hotel (B, L, D)
Day 10 - Lalibela
In the morning a mule ride to Asheton Mariam -a rock church which is built by Lalibela in the 12th century. And after lunch drive to Nakuto-laab monastery and finally visit the church of St. George Overnight Roha Hotel (B, L, D)
Day 11 - Addis Ababa
Fly to Addis Ababa- and a half day city tour of Addis Ababa and visit the National Museum, where Lucy is kept. In the evening you will have a traditional Ethiopian dinner at the renowned restaurant of Addis Ababa and you will be transferred to the Airport for your final departure to home. (B, L, D)
