Cycling / biking through traditional villages, we reach Barać Caves, where we stop for a guided underground tour of some fascinating karst formations. According to a local legend, a man named Barać fought heroically and defeated a raging Turkish giant near these caves, which were thereafter named in his honor. Besides all the aforementioned, Velebit is also home to one of the most famous Croatian endemic species, Velebitska degenija. Due to its magnificence, it’s considered as a national Croatian symbol and as such is mentioned in numerous songs, stories and legends. It is characterized by an elongated shape with steep sides.
