Tour Dates: 19 Oct - 1 Nov.(14 days).
Our expedition of this enchanting island commences from the capital of Antananarivo (“Tana”) where we will then depart for Berenty, the most famous of Madagascar’s lemur reserves. This is home to no less than six lemur species, as well as Southern Madagascar’s’ largest colony of Madagascar Fruit Bats. The easiness with which to observe and photograph Ring-tailed Lemurs and ‘dancing’ Verreaux Sifakas in particular has turned this small protected area into one of the prime Mallagasi photographic destinations. Like the rest of Madagascar, our next destination, Ampijoroa National Park, with its rustic appeal and rural setting, is quite untouched by the Western world. Here it is possible to see and photograph an immense variety of birdlife and spectacular flora and fauna. Our final destination is an expedition through the animal-rich sites of Perinet and Mantadia National Parks in the eastern rainforest zone. The unforgettable song of the Indri drifts through these forests, and we will take time out to find a family group of these, the largest extant lemur species. Exotic birds we are likely to encounter and photograph include Madagascar Ibis, Madagascar Wood Rail, Red-breasted Coua, Velvet Asity, Nuthatch Vanga and Brown Emutail, to name but a few. Chameleons and reptiles are also well represented, including some of the most striking and colourful to be found anywhere on earth. This tour promises to provide many incredible images of a wide range of utterly unique photographic subjects, and we look forward to sharing the delights of this magical island with you.
