Imagine a medieval town, a steady stream of pilgrims making their way down to the great Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, then you can hear the voice of a Jesuit whispering to you “Breath the air of Assisi deeply! ”Yes, you are in Assisi, a beautiful town entirely built in white and rose stone of Mount Subasio, with its narrow, steep and winding alleys which have preserved their charm over the centuries. The Basilica of St. Francis, with the masterpieces of Giotto and Cimabue is absolutely unforgettable!
Built on a hill of volcanic tuff and especially known for the famous deep well of Saint Patrick, crafts (ceramics) and its imposing Duomo. Orvieto is a spectacular tiny town and the site of the city is among the most dramatic in Europe, rising above the almost-vertical faces of tufa cliffs and enclosed by defensive walls made up of the same stone. You can also visit the Etruscan necropolis of Crocefisso di Tufo (dating back to more than 2000 years ago!!).
Is there a special place you want to go visit? Did you hear about a spot that isn’t on “the tourist trail”? Please, tell us!
