This short trip offers the opportunity to experience two of Guatemala’s most famed points of interest. The sparkling Lake Atitlan surrounded by volcanoes offers both natural beauty and cultural immersion in the villages which serve as melting pots for the local and foreign people. After a calm and relaxing stay in the vibrant towns surrounding the lake we will head to the biggest market in all of the country. In Chichicastenango you can find amazing handicrafts created by the indigenous Mayan people such as hand woven textiles and wooden crafts, all at the best prices.
Brief Itinerary: Day 1: Antigua – Panajachel. Day 2: Panajachel – Chichicastenango – Antigua. Tour Itinerary: Day 1: Antigua – Panajachel We will meet you in your local housing/hotel in Antigua at 8:00 am. From there we will drive two and a half hours to Panajachel at the famous Lake Atitlan, our ETA is 11:00 am. First we will check in to our hotel and then head for lunch with a spectacular view of the lake. After lunch we will take a boat trip to the village of San Pedro where we will appreciate a different perspective of the lake and the surrounding volcanoes in this laidback town where this much cultural exchange and immersion between foreigners and locals. Again we will take a boat ride to the nearby Santiago de Atitlan. Here we will be able to experience a ritual experience wherein the locals give thanks, prayers, and worship to Saint Maximon. (Photos of this cultural ritual are permitted, but the locals will charge you Q10 per photo). After our time in Santiago we will return by boat to Panajachel where we will spend the rest of the late afternoon and evening, therefore allowing you free time to explore the many sights, shops, and flavors of this vibrant town. Day 2: Panajachel - Chichicastenango - Antigua We will eat breakfast as a group in our hotel at 7:00 am before we head out at 8:00 to begin our journey to Chichicastenango Market. Our ETA in Chichicastenango is 9:45 am. The Chichicastenango Market is the best in the country, and is open only Thursday’s and Sundays, however if you brush up on your bargaining skills you are sure to fine the most unique and high quality goods at the most affordable prices. After a morning of shopping we will head to one of the best restaurants in town, allowing you a chance to taste the local and traditional flavors of the Quiche region. Following lunch we will return to Antigua at 2:00 pm making our ETA for Antigua 5:30. You will be dropped off at your hotel in plenty of time for a night out in the town. Notes: Price Includes:
