After lunch you will relax and enjoy the lodge's facilities until the late afternoon when you will go for a game drive. Animals to be seen here include, herds of elephant, buffalos, leopards, hyenas, lions, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, chest-nut coated impalas, diminuitive oribis, secretive bush bucks and cape elands. Day 3: Volcanoes National Park (3hrs 30 min). After an early breakfast you will drive to Vocanoes National Park arriving in time for lunch at the Volcanoes Virunga Lodge. Volcanoes National Park (Parc National des Volcans) is haven for the mountain gorillas and is home to five of the eight volcanoes of the Virunga Mountains (Karisimbi, Bisoke, Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabyinyo), which are covered in rainforest and bamboo. After lunch you will visit the grave of Dr. Dian Fossey. One of the world's leading female scientists who devoted her life to protecting and studying the mountain gorillas of Africa. Dinner and overnight at Volcanoes Virunga Lodge.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking. After an early breakfast, you will report to the park station for a briefing after which you will set off for Gorilla trekking. You will be led through the forest by experienced trackers. Gorilla trekking is a strenuous activity and can take anywhere from one to eight hours, depending on Gorilla movements. Hence, a reasonable degree of fitness is required. During your trek you will spot other primates such as golden monkeys and a variety of animals including the buffalo, bush duiker and a wide variety of bird life. On locating the gorillas you will watch them feed, play, rest, raise their young and you will also be allowed to photograph them. Dinner and overnight at Volcanos Virunga Lodge.

Day 5: Lake Kivu (1 hour). After breakfast you will depart for Lake Kivu. This is the largest lake in Rwanda and is beautifully located amid numerous mountains and steep, green terraced hills. Lake Kivu with its beach is ideal for swimming, boat rides and sun bathing. On arrival, you will enjoy a morning boat ride on the lake and bird lovers can expect to see birds such as pelicans, majestic crowned cranes, malachite kingfishers' hawk and many more. You will also have a chance to see a variety of water animals such as Hippos. Lunch will be at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel.

The lakes shores of Lake Kivu are surrounded by three resort towns namely, Gisenyi, Kibuye and Cyangugu. After lunch you will tour and discover these three colourful lakeside resort towns, pursuing the various activities they have to offer, including speedboats, canoe sailing, and mountain walks. Dinner and overnight at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel.

Day 6: Nyungwe Forest 3 hours. Nyungwe forest National Park is the largest block of montane forest in East and Central Africa, and one of the most ancient, dating back to before the last ice age. The forest has 13 primate species including chimpanzee and large groups of Colobus monkeys. After an early breakfast you will depart for Nyungwe Forest arriving in time for lunch. En route you will stop at the Old Palace in Nyanza which was home to the Rwandan monarchy. After lunch you will take a guided walk to the waterfall. Monkeys are often seen along the way, the Angola colobus seems to be particularly common. Dinner and overnight at Gisakura Guesthouse Nyungwe.

Day 7: Chimpanzee trekking and departure for Kigali. After an early breakfast, you will begin chimpanzee trekking in the Forest. Trekking begins at 6am. You will track chimpanzees, colobus monkeys and golden monkeys in the forest. During the track you will also have a chance to see other creatures such as reptiles, butterflies, and bird species. There are over 280 bird species recorded in the forest. The Rwandan Chimpanzee population of at least five hundred individuals is at present believed to be confined to Nyungwe national park. You will have lunch followed by a drive back to Kigali. Dinner and overnight at Kigali Serena Hotel.

Day 8: Genocide memorial Centres. After breakfast you will have a guided tour of the genocide sites within Kigali. The tour will take you to two key sites: The Kigali Memorial centre and Ntarama Church. These graves are a clear reminder of the cost of ignorance. Kigali Memorial Centre was opened on the 10th Anniversary of the Rwandan Genocide, in April 2004. The Centre is built on a site where over 250,000 people are buried. Ntarama Church memorial: This site of the April 1994 massacre has been declared a genocide memorial.
