Our “Communist Estonia” tour is centred around a visit to Paldiski, which from 1962 until 1995 was a Soviet nuclear submarine training base. The whole town was closed to outsiders, and shrouded in secrecy. Today we can explore the crumbling buildings and see how the town is trying to transform itself in a modern Estonia. On this tour we will also explore a unique utopian soviet housing project, visit a manor house which was taken over by the special rocket forces, and you’ll see a soviet era statue which caused rioting in the streets of Tallinn just a few years ago.
