Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Lake Mburo. Meet the group in the morning at 500 am and set off for the safari. Drive through Kampala the capital city and take Masaka road. The first stop over is at the Equator which is near Nabugabo beach for photographs and snacks/breakfast. Continue the journey in savannah vegetation, full of banana plantations up to Masaka town. Have a lunch stop over at Mbarara in one of the hotels. Continue to Lake Mburo National park which is centered in a series of swamp fringed lakes known for its richness in birdlife. In the evening go for boat cruise on Lake Mburo .Have a night in one of the campsites. Meal plan: (D).

Day 2: Very early in the morning, take a game drive around the park trails, in a green acacia woodland surrounding the Lake harbors, you will be in position to see dense populations of zebras, warthogs, buffalos impalas and surviving Uganda populations of Eland. There are over 357 species of birds including marabou stock and crowned crane favoring bird watching as an activity. After the above, continue Mbarara-Kabale road to Mgahinga NP found in South-western Uganda bordering Rwanda and Congo. Have an overnight in one the campsite.

Day 3: Mgahinga National Park. In the morning after breakfast, meet the ranger guide to take you to the park which comprises of 3 extinct volcanoes and 3 extensive swamps, the mountain gorillas that form the main attraction in the park, go for nature walk into the park and here you are able to see mountain gorillas, and other animals like the golden monkeys, elephants, leopards, and forest hogs. In the afternoon, continue Kisoro to Bwindi National Park and have an overnight in gorilla forest camp.

Day 4: Bwindi National Park. In the morning after breakfast at around 8:00 am, drive to the park headquarters set off for gorilla tracking with packed lunch, plenty of water and rain gears. Meet the guides and trackers for guidelines on tracking etiquette. Tracking is done by first of all finding where they slept the previous night and then following their foot marks until you reach where they are. The moment you reach where they are, all the fatigue is forgotten.

This activity takes around 1-6 hours, very tiresome by climbing altitudes of about 7500 feet, but it is very interesting seeing their way of life, behaviors and how they take care of their young ones in their natural habitat. These are just like human beings; the only difference is that for them they live in the bush. It is an interesting experience that one shouldn’t miss. Have an overnight at the camp. NB: Seeing gorillas is not a guarantee.

Day 5: Quenp. Set off in the morning after breakfast to Mbarara-Bushenyi road to Queen Elizabeth NP. Reach at around 9:00 and go for a nature walk in Imaramagambo forest guided by a ranger. This is a young natural forest is blessed with a lot of attractions and while on nature walk, you are able to see different types of tree that are found in the park, the rich bird life, the bat cave, which contains thousands of bats, the hunters cave and African rock python, the blue lake and the monitor lizard catching bats.

In the afternoon after a relaxed lunch, go for chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura gorge which is still within the park. The activity takes around 2-3 hrs and gorge has some other primates like monkeys. It’s an interesting experience to trek chimps in their natural habitat since these are like human beings. Have overnight at Mweya safari lodge/Albertine hostel.

Day 6: After a heavy breakfast, embark on a Game drive through the park trails. Drive slowly towards the Katunguru gate. The channel track is particularly rewarding with warthogs, bush bucks, water bucks, elephants, and buffalos. There are chances in the morning hours to see the spotted hyenas and leopards. Cross the Mbarara-Kasese-Fort Portal road and drive towards Kasenyi area for a chance of seeing lions. In the afternoon, there is a launch cruise on the Kazinga channel, a stream that joins Lake George and Lake Edward.

The cruise takes around 2 hrs and it’s interesting because it gives eye to eye with the yawning hippos in water surrounded by a variety of both migrant and resident birds. Other animals like the buffalos, elephants are seen while on the river banks taking water at the channel banks. What is most interesting is seeing the albino hippo in water. In the evening, drive to Kibale NP which is located 36 km south of Fort portal town. Stay over night at Rwenzori guest house/Ndali lodge which is a well-built up and furnished lodge in-between two carter lakes.

Day 7: Kibale National Park. Drive to Kibale after breakfast in the morning, meet the ranger and take a primate walk. While trekking within the forest, you are able to see different species of birds and butterflies found in the forest. The forest also hosts 100 chimpanzees of which 80 strong community has been familiarized to tourist visits. There is a variety of monkeys including the acrobatic red colobus, black, red and white colobus and the handsome Hoest monkey. Having seen all these makes it a good experience. In the evening, continue to Murchison falls and have an overnight at the Nile safari camp/parra lodge/Sambya river lodge/Red chill. Meal plan: (B, L, D).

Day 8: Murchisson Falls. After a cup of tea/coffee, take a ferry across the Nile to the top of the falls for a nature walk in Budongo forest for chimpanzee trekking. While in the forest, the sounds/echoes of these giants carry through the forest and a variety of bird species favoring the activity of bird watching. The forest is endowed with a variety of other primates like monkeys that are seen swinging on tree branches.

Return for lunch at your accommodation. In the afternoon after a relaxed lunch, take a boat trip on the Nile whose banks are nourished with crocodiles, yawning hippos and a variety of bird species. The boat stops for about 30 minutes 50 meters away from the falls and here you can obtain excellent views of the Nile waters are squeezed in a 6-meter crevice falling 40 meters down roaring favoring taking of photographs. Have dinner and overnight at your accommodation.

Day 9: Take a ferry in the morning across the Nile for a Game drive in the Northern sector of the park and here you are able to different game found in the park and these may include elephants, oribi, giraffes, water buck, buffalos, statungas, warthogs, bushbucks bush pigs lion, leopards jackal among others plus different bird species within the park. In the afternoon connect to Lira-Soroti road and then finally to Mtn Elgon NP in Mbale. Have an over night at the Kapkwata rest house/Locam lodge.

Day 10: Mount Elgon National Park. In the morning after breakfast take a walking trip to the mountain and you be impressed by the beautiful scenery of the extinct volcanoes, caves, the hot springs, gorges and what is more gorgeous is the Sipi falls in the foothills of the mountain that surpasses any kind of nature you have ever seen. Having seen this at the mountain makes a wonderful natural exploration. Drive back to Kampala/Jinja safely.
