Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Masai Mara. Depart Nairobi and drive to the Great Rift Valley past the Maasai town of Narok to the legendary Maasai Mara National Reserve by lunch time. For most safari participants, this is the jewel and highlight of the safari expedition. You will be enchanted by the diversity of animals that roam the Mara plains, and if traveling over the migration period, you will experience the seasonal annual migration of wildebeests and zebras in millions as they cross over into this ecosystem from Serengeti (July – October). The breathtaking topography of the region, comprising of endless expansive escarpments and plateaus will be interesting. The park is home to the largest populations of predators including the big cats. Witnessing them making a’ kill’ is phenomenal. Enjoy an afternoon game drive returning to your Lodge for dinner and overnight at a Lodge/Camp. Day 2: Masai Mara. Spend a full day with game drives (an early morning game drive and a late afternoon game drive) exploring this vast Reserve known for its huge stocks of animals including the lion, leopard, rhino, elephant cheetah, giraffe, hyena and buffalo and other impressive wildlife and a variety of bird life. The ‘Mara’ is justifiably known as one of Africa’s best wildlife reserves – prime game viewing and great photography. All meals and overnight at your Lodge/Camp. Day 3: Lake Nakuru. After breakfast drive back across the Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park. This relatively small reserve surrounds a shallow soda lake (Lake Nakuru) which is renowned for its birdlife, especially the flocks of flamingos that feed on the algae in the alkaline waters. The park is also an important sanctuary for both ‘black’ and ‘white’ rhino as well as being home to leopard, buffalo various types of antelope and even the lion. All meals and overnight at your Lodge/Camp. Day 4: Mt. Kenya. Drive North through the rich farmlands of coffee, pineapples and more to the world famous Mt Kenya region. Arrive in time for lunch. Your afternoon will be spent free, giving you an opportunity to enjoy activities such as horseback riding, bowling, golf, tennis, and nature walks. Dinner and overnight at a Lodge/Camp. Days 5-6: Samburu Game Reserve. Early morning breakfast before driving to the Samburu Game Reserve, on the fringes of the Northern Frontier District, a remote district of northern Kenya. The scenery here bears a striking difference from the fertile farmland in the south of Kenya, but the desolate and sandy landscape is the preferred habitat for mammals well-adapted to the harsh environment. Among these are Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, and the gerenuk (an unusual long-necked antelope which feeds on leaves of spends much of its time on its hind legs browsing the leaves of bushes. We spend two nights at a Lodge/Camp in the Samburu before heading back over the equator. Days 7-8: Amboseli National Park. We take leave of Samburu and head back over the equator and passing through Nairobi with picnic lunches to arrive in the scenic Amboseli National Park. The park borders Tanzania and has the impressive views of the snow capped Mt. Kilimanjaro. Amboseli’s landscape is of dry and dusty plains are trampled by hundreds of hoofed grazing animals but it is well-watered by run off and snow melt from Kilimanjaro which feed underground springs in the park. Dinner and overnight at a Lodge/Camp. Day 9: Nairobi. After a morning game drive we return to Nairobi to arrive by mid afternoon (kindly note that; lunch on this day is NOT included in the cost but can be arranged on request). Notes: Price Includes:
