Day 1: Arrive in Guyana. Afternoon transfer airport to Le Meridien Pegasus. Overnight.
Day 2: Kaieteur Falls - Surama. Fly to Kaieteur Falls and spend 2 hours exploring while searching for the famous Guianan Cock of the Rock. We continue to the jasper lined Orinduik falls. Swimming in this natural pool is a treat before we continue our flight to Annai. We transfer to Surama Guest House for overnight. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 3: Surama Eco lodge. Morning bird watching around Surama. Afternoon visit to the community center and school. Visit with the locals. Overnight at Surama Eco Lodge. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 4: Surama Eco lodge. This morning we take a leisurely walk to Burro Burro River for great birding opportunities. We may likely see birds such as the Savannah Hawk, Pearl Kite in this area. Late afternoon return to Surama Eco Lodge. Overnight. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 5: Atta Lodge. Today we'll drive to the Canopy Walkway. The 154 metre (505 feet) state-of-the-art Iwokrama Canopy Walkway offers a totally unique experience in the region and envelopes you in the jungle's mid-level canopy through a series of suspension bridges and decks from heights of up to 30 metres (98 feet). Red Howler Monkeys may also be observed. Learn about the epiphytes such orchids and bromeliads, and look for the amazing parasitic Ficus plant. There is also the Greenheart Tree, the Waramadan (endemic in Guyana only to the Iwokrama Forest) and the poisonous Aromata!
In this area are some especially choice species, from Harpy Eagle to Jaguar and Puma. We may see also the diminutive Dusky Purpletuft, Purple-breasted Cotinga, Todd’s and Guyanan Streaked Antwrens, Guyanan Puffbird, Dusky and Caica Parrots, and a variety of woodcreepers, woodpeckers, honeycreepers, tityras, toucans, aracaris and more. along the trails we may encounter tinamous, foliage-gleaners, antshrikes, grosbeaks and other goodies. The clearing at Atta is an excellent location for Crimson Fruit-Crow. On the second day, you walk the Cock-of-the-rock Trail, an easy 20 minute walk, to enjoy more Guyanan Cock-of-the-rock. Then you retrace our steps looking for exciting species before you return to Atta Lodge. Overnight at Atta Lodge. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 6: Iwokrama. Morning on canopy walkway, lunch at Atta. Afternoon transfer to Iwokrama Field Station. Along the way, birds you would most likely see are: cracids, cotingas, Crimson Topaz, Crimson Fruitcrow, Hoatzin, the Harpy Eagle and parrots. Overnight at the Iwokrama River lodge. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 7: Turtle Mountain - Iwokrama. After breakfast, the journey starts with a peaceful and scenic half hour boat ride where you arrive at the base of the mountain. The trek to the 290 m Turtle Mountain summit is mildly challenging and takes about 1.5 - 2 hours but the breathtaking views are more than worth the effort. Turtle Mountain provides a gorgeous view of the top of the rainforest canopy. Along the way Harpy Eagle has been seen and you may also see the Greater Yellow-headed Vulture, King Vulture, Gray-headed, Double-toothed, and Plumbeous Kites and Black-faced Hawk.
The trails may reveal Little Chachalaca, Marail Guan, Black Currassow, Squirrel and Black-bellied Cuckoos, Blue-crowned Mot Mot, Colalred Puffbird, Pygmy, Antwrens and many more! You may also be rewarded with sightings of monkeys such as Red Howlers, Wedge-capped Capuchins and Black Spiders. The area offer excellent opportunities for viewing Squirrel and Howler monkeys, Peccaries, Arapaima, and occasionally Giant River Otters. The camp is located at the foot of Turtle Mountain near Paddle Rock Creek, a refuge for Brazilian Tapirs, occasional Peccaries, agoutis, and Pacas. Return to the Field Station for overnight. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 8: Fly to Georgetown. Transfer to Annai for our flight to Georgetown. Afternoon city tour and botanical gardens for bird watching. Overnight at Le Meridien Pegasus. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 9: Departure. Transfer from Le Meridien, Pegasus to airport for departure.
