On our Iberian Lynx Expedition, our explorations will take us to two key areas to search for the Iberian Lynx. This tour will visit two of the foremost strongholds for Iberian Lynx and some of the richest marshlands in southern Europe. Our explorations will begin in the Sierras south of Madrid, in the Sierra de Andújar Natural Park. Next we will make our way to ‘Parque Nacional de Doñana’, on the coast.
Now a UNESCO world heritage site, this park is also recognized as a Bioshpere reserve and a wetland of international importance. In this diverse ecosystem, we stand a good chance of observing the sought after Iberian Lynx and other mammals. This park also shelters a plethora of European and African migratory birds. This tour, perfectly timed during the spring, offers amazing wildlife viewing opportunities in the breathtaking Spanish countryside and is a European experience not to be missed! Tour Itinerary: Day 1: Madrid Barajas Airport to Andújar. Day 2: Sierra de Andújar Natural Park. Day 3: Sierra de Andújar Natural Park. Day 4: Sierra de Andújar Natural Park. Day 5: Andújar to Coto Doñana National Park via Cordoba. Day 6: Coto Doñana National Park and surrounds. Day 7: Coto Doñana National Park and surrounds. Day 8: Coto Doñana to Madrid and depart. The Northern Spain extension follows the Southern Spain, Iberian Lynx tour. On this exciting extension, we will visit two of the more remote and lesser explored areas of Northern Spain. Here we will concentrate our efforts on finding the elusive Iberian Wolf and Eurasian Brown bear, both nearing extinction. Our journey starts with a scenic drive through the Sierra de Gredos mountain range. This area has been declared a Regional Park and we will spend time looking for Iberian Ibex. Next we head to the mountainous chain of Sierra de la Culebra in the north west of Spain. These mountains are renowned as one of the few remaining Iberian Wolf strongholds. Finally we head to the magnificent Somiedo National Park. This amazingly untouched area is home to the enchanting Chamois and majestic Eurasian Brown Bear.
