Day 1: Getting to Bariloche, transfer to the hotel. We will make the last preparations for the upcoming 6-day long trekking. We check the material and put the food together. Overnight at the Hotel in Bariloche. Day 2: Cerro Catedral – Refugio Frey - approx. 4 hours. Our trekking starts at the feet of the ski area Cerro Catedral, one of the most known ski areas in Southamerika. We follow the trail “piccada del Frey” which goes easily up on the side of Cerro Catedral. We cross some small rivers and can enjoy the view down to lake Coutierrez and the Cerro Ventana mountain. Than we walk trough the Van Titter valley and a forest with giant Leña trees (Nothofagus) and above the tree line we can already see the Refugio Frey. It lies on 1700 meters next to the Toncek Laguna and is surrounded by huge granite towers which are famous for rock-climbing. Overnight and dinner at the Refugio Frey. Day 3: Refugio Frey – Refugio San Martin approx: 7 hours. After Passing the Toncek Laguna and walking trough rocky fields we will reach the rist of Cerro Catedral. Here we can enjoy a great view to the Tres Reyes mountain, Principal tower and the majestic glacier covered Tronador mountain. In-between the granite towers (los Catedrales) are we now walking down to the Rucaco valley. There at the Laguna Schmoll we will eat a delicious lunch out of our backpack. Than we hike up to the Brecha Negra pass. From here we can already see our goal of the day, the Refugio San Martin. We just have to walk a steep trail down to get to the Laguna Jacob whit its cozy mountain hut. Who likes can take a refreshing swim in the blue water. Overnight and dinner at the Refugio San Martin. Day 4: Refugio San Martin – Refugio Italia. Today we will hike on technically a bit more difficult trails. After a good breakfast at the hut we start a steep trail up to Cerro Navidad (christmas mountain). The view up there pays for the walking. We can see Cerro Negro (black mountain) with its black rock. We will have a snack up here and can maybe see the Condors flying around. Now we walk down to the Goves valley. From there it’s just a short ascend up on the Laguna negra trail to the Refugio Italia also called Manfred Serge. Overnight and dinner at the Refugio Italia. Day 5: Refugio Italia – Refugio Cerro Lopez - Bariloche. Today its already our last trekking day and we can once more enjoy the great views to all the mountains, volcanoes, and peaks as Lanin, Osorno, Tronador Puntiagudo and the big Nahuel Huapi lake with all its arms. We leave the Laguna negra behind us and climb up to Cerro Baileys on an easy trail. Now starts the last descend that takes about one hour until we reach the refugio Lopez (Lopez mountain hut). A pink hut where we can enjoy the greatest view to the lake system of Bariloche. We take a break here and walk down than trough shady forests until we reach the end of the trekking at the Nahuel Huapi lake. A shuttle brings us back to the Hotel in Bariloche.
