Finland is a small Nordic country situated in the Fennoscandian region of Northern Europe. Bordered by Sweden, Norway and Russia, it is particularly famous for its thousands of lakes and islands, while over 80% of the country remains covered in forest.
Finland Photographic Expedition is especially design to photograph the most sought after species of this incredible wilderness. Our expedition commences in Oulu, where our lenses will focus on the spectacular Black Grouse. At a lek site where several male birds congregate to display and hopefully attract a mate, we will use canvas hides and comfortable chairs or mattresses and warm sleeping bags to keep us warm while waiting for the ideal image. Hides will be put up beforehand, so when we arrive the birds will have already become used to them and should be lekking just in front of us. Our next destination is Kuusamo, where our photographic target will be the majestic Golden Eagle. Our base in Oulanka National Park provides the unique Taiga Forest setting for photographing these iconic birds of prey, and we can expect some great photographic opportunities in a truly pristine and magical setting. After spending our final morning photographing in Kuusamo, we will head to Viiksimo, Kuhmo, in search of the Brown Bear. Our expedition is again specifically timed for when these creatures normally awaken from their winter hibernation. Our final destination is Lieksa, probably the best place to see and photograph Wolverines in Finland (or the whole world for that matter!). While certainly not guaranteed, we hope to capture these mythical and rather bizarre-looking creatures with our camera lenses, before finally concluding our tour of this very special region of our planet.
