A land between two deserts - a few words so often used to describe Namibia. But the mere word "desert", if not read by someone who knows a desert, conjures up any number of images, normally imaginative or Hollywood induced. To fully explore or understand either the Kalahari Desert or the Namib Desert would not only require dedication, but probably a lifetime as well. Here, in this short 10-day safari, we have included the highlights and some of the most popular and unique features - literally the tail of each! From your arrival at Namibia's International airport, we allow one night to relax from your long flight, and acclimatize to Namibia. From the very next morning, you will be travelling along the perimeter of our highlands, towards the very edge of the escarpment, and descend into the ancient Namib Desert for three nights. Cross over to the Kalahari Desert for four nights, and end your visit to Namibia near the foothills of the Auas Mountains.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Meet your host at Namibia's International airport and transfer to a small Game Camp on the outskirts of Windhoek to relax from the long flight, and acclimatize to Namibia, while viewing your very first wildlife of the safari. Includes: (D).

Day 2: After a quick continental breakfast, you will experience a country side of a thousand hills, as you travel along the perimeter of our central highlands. Just before you reach the very edge of the escarpment, you will be in time for a farm lunch, a short Siesta, and then a drive through this Khomas Hochland farm, on the fringe of the Namib Desert, with magnificent views over the desert itself. After dinner, the quiet and tranquility of this region, plus the distant howl of a Jackal, will lull you into a peaceful sleep. Includes: (B, L & D).

Days 3-4: From today, experience a completely different Namib desert, as you move directly towards the famous dune sea of the Namib desert. After freshening up, and a short rest, explore the geologically-historic Sesriem Gorge, before enjoying your first desert dinner. Day 4 will be the earliest start of your safari, as you travel along the Tsauchab River Valley towards some of the highest sand dunes in the world at Sossusvlei. After viewing and photographing this pristine wilderness with its ever-changing views of earth-tone hues, you will descend and enjoy a scrumptious brunch under age-old Camel thorn trees before you return to camp. Includes: (B, L & D).

Days 5-6: Cross over from the Namib Desert in the west, to the Kalahari Desert in the east. On arrival at your Kalahari venue, relax and make your own comparison between a Namib sunset and a Kalahari sunset, by ending your first day with a sundowners drive. Experience the stark contrast of the dunes against the azure blue sky during the day, and the gradient tones of the setting sun's crimson hues against the orange/red dunes. Your second day promises an informative scenic drive and guided walks/hikes through the Kalahari. Includes: (B, L & D).

Days 7-8: Moving further north, you will experience another face of the Kalahari. Should your visit coincide with the period directly after good rains, it will be difficult to believe you are in a desert - grassland savanna as far as the eye can see! End your first day in this section of the Kalahari with a very rewarding wildlife viewing drive before dinner. Early on Day 8, you will join a San, or Bushman, tracker for an exciting walk through the Kalahari. Learn how these first inhabitants of Africa managed to survive in an apparently inhospitable and harsh environment. The remainder of the day at own leisure to relax and/or explore your immediate surroundings, or join another Game drive before the day is done. Subject to other guests – outside of your group – having booked in advance, there is also a possibility to experience the traditional dancing, singing and story-telling of these friendly Bushman. Includes: (B, L & D).

Day 9: Unfortunately, all good things also come to an end, and you must return to Windhoek today. But, the change from the wilderness to civilization will be softened by the atmosphere and comfort of a Game Ranch, en-route to the airport. Join a scenic drive for a final view of our sunset on this, your last night in Namibia, Africa. Includes: (B, L & D).

Day 10: Subject to flight departure time, you will have the opportunity for a leisurely breakfast, and to finish those last exposures on your film, or memory disc. Transfer to Namibia's International airport to arrive in time for your departure flight. Includes: (B – Lunch will be subject to flight departure time).

Note: Days 1 and 10 will always be subject to flight schedule, and may have to be customized to same.
