Please Note: If a minimum number of guests are stated, we can unfortunately NOT RESPOND to an inquiry for less than the required minimum. This is necessary as our "Gondwana Land Revisited" is a PRIVATE safari, meaning that you will have sole use of an own safari vehicle and personal host/guide for the duration of the safari, and NOT be joined by anybody else.
This four-desert safari concentrates on the various Biomes found within the deserts or desert eco systems visited. However, the last day will be in typical highland bush, offering the typical animal- and bird life that inhabit such landscapes. These range from the small Suricate Meerkat and other Mongoose species, through other seldom noticed small species, insects and desert bird life, to the regal Gemsbok (Oryx) and a variety of Antelope. The remainder of this safari will take you through the Kalahari Desert; the Nama Karoo; the Succulent Karoo and the Namib Desert, each exhibiting its own environmental eco-systems. Within these four deserts you will encounter the might of the Namib when man-made structures are no longer tended; the tenacity of the Feral horses who have, through generations, fought against the onslaught of the Namib; the amazing Quiver trees fighting for survival against the Nama Karoo, and the results of ancient mighty rivers that carved the veritable layer cake of the ages – the Fish River Canyon. All of the above, simply cannot be explained in mere words, or represented on photographs, because these four deserts are not a place or places, but experiences. Only the permanent inhabitants – man, beast and plant – can start to appreciate the hidden life-sustaining offerings of the Kalahari Desert; although the silence of the Namib Desert seems absolute on the human ear, it ‘speaks’ volumes to those who wish to listen. Come, let the Barking Geckos lull you to sleep with the vivid spectacle of the Namib sunset still fresh in your mind’s eye. ALL the activities mentioned in the itinerary, are already included in the price. Tour Itinerary: Day 1: Meet your host at the airport on arrival and transfer directly to your first venue in the Kalahari Desert. Relax from the long flight and acclimatize to Namibia. Includes: (D). Day 2: As the breeze through the palm fronds wake you, enjoy a wholesome breakfast before joining an early morning scenic drive to acquaint yourself with the wonders of the Kalahari. Relax during the hottest part of the day, and then end your day on a sundowners drive through the orange-red sand dunes of the Kalahari. Includes: (B, L, D). Day 3: Move further south, out of the orange-red dunes, towards Africa’s mighty chasm – the Fish River Canyon. You will arrive in time for a late afternoon visit to the Canyon, to view the changing colours of light and shade, created by the setting sun over the Canyon. Includes: (B, L, D). Day 4: Although an opportunity is offered to also view the effects of the rising sun over the Canyon, the remainder of your day will be at own leisure at the Ai-ais natural mineral water hot springs. Returning towards the gate around lunch time, experience a significant change in temperature, as you explore the geologically-historic Sesriem Gorge. Return to your lodging for a well-deserved rest after a very active day. Includes: (B, L, D). Day 9: Unfortunately, this four-desert experience is fast coming to an end. But not to create too much of a shock to your system by suddenly returning you to civilization after such a free and close-to-Nature experience, your accommodation tonight will be at a Game Ranch en-route to the airport.
