A nature safari, as close to nature as possible - without actually camping - to fully appreciate the African experience! This offer is valid for any 10 days of choice between January and December. A fully accommodated safari with the express purpose of being as close to Nature as possible - yet comfortable and secure. This accommodated nature safari, will only be possible with a minimum booking of two Guests. It will start in Windhoek, and end in Windhoek 10 days later.
En-route you will and visit the orange-red, linear dunes of the Kalahari, where you may view the much-loved Meerkats of this famous desert from your room’s verandah; search for nocturnal animals in the Namib Desert, plus the experience of viewing and climbing the highest sand dunes in the world at Sossusvlei. Besides the sand dunes of the Namib, you'll have the opportunity to "lose yourself" in the soul-reaching silence and tranquility of the southern Namib.
This entire journey will be fully accommodated, albeit sometimes in fixed structures, and other times in permanent tents or rustic chalets, affording you the "feel of the African bush" without having to camp. ALL activities mentioned in the itinerary, are already included in the safari price. For those who have a little more time available, this safari is also available as an 18-day safari, covering north- and south Namibia, under the title of “Hugging Nature in Namibia”. Alternatively, another 10-day safari will cover northern Namibia, under the title of “Hugging Nature in northern Namibia”.
Day 1: Meet your host at Namibia's International airport and transfer to a guest farm near the airport, or a guest farm on the edge of the central escarpment (subject to flight schedule) to rest from the long flight and acclimatize to Namibia. Includes: (D).
Day 2: After breakfast, travel along the perimeter of the Khomas Hochland (our central highlands), towards the very edge of the central escarpment and experience the vista of the Namib desert at your feet. Descend into the Namib towards your first Namib guest farm and an opportunity for a night wildlife viewing drive to view the nocturnal animals of the desert. Includes: (B, L & D).
Day 3: Start your day with a pleasant early morning walk on one of the many marked hiking trails of this pristine desert environment. Drive via the small settlement of Solitaire for a quick fuel stop, and enjoy a slice of Solitaire's world famous apple pie with your tea/coffee while you wait. Continue towards your accommodation, a Moroccan-styled tented camp, with dinner served al fresco on the terrace with paraffin/kerosene lamps lit after sunset. Dine while viewing desert wildlife quenching their thirst at a floodlit waterhole - under the glittering canopy of the Southern Skies. Includes: (B, L & D).
Day 4: Be woken at dawn to travel along the Tsauchab River Valley towards some of the highest sand dunes in the world at Sossusvlei. Arrive at the first accessible dunes and climb them for the experience of a lifetime. See how the rising sun paints the landscape in shadow and light, with colors of earth tone ranging from the softest pastels to a deep orange. Descend when ready and enjoy brunch under age-old Camel thorn trees. Return to camp for a siesta during the hottest part of the day. Late afternoon, explore the geologically historic Sesriem Gorge. Day 5: Today you travel further south into the southern Namib Desert, towards the lone sentinel, the Tiras Mountains. Here, on this soil of the oldest desert on earth, is represented the story of Earth, portrayed through the awesome results of Nature's essential performance. Experience this timeless desert where the silence of its remote ruggedness, loneliness and desolation, sometimes seems absolute on the human ear - yet rings loud, and speaks volumes, to those who wish to listen. Day 6: Leaving the Namib Desert, and entering into a region of the larger Karoo basin, arrive at a typical Namibian landscaped venue, where it seems as if you could see tomorrow arriving over the horizon. Synonymous with the spirit of freedom, the southern Namib Desert exhibits this emotion so clearly in the well-known presence of our feral horses. Includes: (B, L & D).
Day 7: One of the longer distances today, as you cross over from the Namib Desert in the west, to the Kalahari Desert in the east. End your first day in the Kalahari with a sundowners drive through the orange-red dunes, experiencing the changing colours of the sunset, contrasting against the dunes and grassland. Includes: (B, L & D).
Day 8: After breakfast, in the crisp early morning air, enjoy a scenic drive to experience the awakening of desert life. The entire remainder of the day at own leisure to relax, or sit on your room’s verandah, viewing the antics of the ever lovable Suricate Meerkats. A Cheetah viewing/-feeding tour in the late afternoon is also available. Includes: (B, L & D).
Day 9: Unfortunately, all good things also come to an end, and you have to turn around and head back to Windhoek today. However, there will still be sufficient time for an early morning guided nature before finally returning to Windhoek. But not to make the transition to civilization too harsh, your accommodation tonight will be at a small Game Lodge en-route to the airport. Relax, and view a final sunset, on this, your last night in Namibia, Africa. Includes: (B, L & D).
Day 10: Subject to flight departure time, you might have all morning to enjoy nature walks on the premises or simply laze on a pool chair and view wildlife at the waterhole. Transfer to Namibia's International airport to arrive in time for your departure flight. Includes: (B - Lunch subject to flight schedule).
