Day 1: Reykjavik - South Shore - Vik
Depart from your hotel in Reykjavik in the morning.
The first stop is at the small village Hveragerði, where geothermal water is used to warm up greenhouses. We continue along the south shore and stop at the waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss before continuing to Dyrhólaey natural reserve (closed during the nesting period until June 25th) or Reynisfjall. The promontory there is a massive natural arch carved by the relentless pounding of the winds and surf, whose sounds provide an accompaniment to the cries of the countless thousands of seabirds which nest in its every crevice. We then continue to Vík area for an overnight stay at Hotel Edda Vik or similar.

Day 2: Vík - Skaftafell - Glacial Lagoon - Höfn
We cross Eldhraun, the largest mass of lava ever to flow on Earth in historical time, before we reach the small village Kirkjubæjarklaustur, former site of a 12th-century Catholic convent. The tour continues over Skeiðarársandur, vast tracts of black sandy desert washed down by torrential glacial rivers. We stop at the Skaftafell National Park for a walk in the area. Then continue to the Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon where huge icebergs, broken off the ever-shifting mass of Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, float and grind together in the still, deep waters of the lagoon, providing a surreal backdrop for a cruise with a difference. We continue east towards Höfn area to our accommodation at Guesthouse Smyrlabjorg in Sudursveit or similar. Dinner.
