The county of Messinia is a beautiful region enclosed by endless miles of sandy beaches. It is located on the south-western leg of the Peloponnese and borders with the Ionian sea. It attracts thousands of tourists every year due to the magnificent coastline and the exuberance of archeological and Byzantine monuments. Its economy is based on Kalamata, the commercial and industrial centre of the county. The agricultural sector is also important with exports including figs, raisins, grapes, wine, oranges, olives and olive oil.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Kalamata. Pick up from Hotel Sofitel at Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos at 9am. 3hr drive to Kalamata, settling in the hotel and bike fitting. Today we ride an easy coastal road to Kitries. 6mi/10km 1hr.

Day 2: Koroni (30mi/50km 3hr 30min ride). A moderate ride along the coastline with a stop at Petalidi village for a swim at the nearby sandy beach.

Day 3: Foinikounta (12mi/20km 2hr ride). An uphill ride at the beginning then its all downhill with a great view of the sandy beaches as we approach Foinikounta village.

Day 4: Pylos (30mi/47km 3hr 30min ride). A moderate ride all the way. We stop at picturesque Methoni for a visit at the Castle and we continue through an olive forests to Pylos. We hike to Gialova Castle and ride to Voidokilia beach.

Day 5: Kalamata(31mi/51km 3hr 40min ride). Moderate ride throught the mountains with a stop at Polilimnio with its laggons and waterfalls for a swim. Visit at Kalamata Castle.

Day 6: Ithomi – Kings Nestor Palace (17,5mi/28km 2hr 20min ride up to Ithomi). The last section is uphill but mostly a moderate ride. We visit the Ancient town of Messini in Ithomi and then we shuttle to Kings Nestor Palace and back to Kalamata.

Day 7: Kardamyli (19mi/31km 2hr 20min ride). A modulating road by the coastline, at the foothills of Mt Taygetos, takes us to beautiful Kardamyli where we visit the old town and swim at the nearby beach.

Day 8: End of tour. We can drop you off at Kalamata Airport, at Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos or the center of Athens.
