Mykonos, Paros, Naxos, Santorini The Cyclades are group of islands situated in the southern part of the Aegean Sea. The archipelago contains 2,200 islands, islets and rocks, only 33 islands are inhabited. The Cyclades are best known for the islands of Mykonos, Paros and Santorini. The Cyclades share the same architecture of small whitewashes cubic houses with flat roofs, wooden colored doors and windows with floured balconies. The multitudes of narrow streets are particularly charming and magic. The Cycladic architecture is explained by the fact that the houses had flat roofs and a cubic shape to resist against the strong winds. They were painted in white to cool the high temperatures of summer time. The houses were built very close to one another for protection against the pirates. It also shows the strong communal spirit of the era. Mykonos. Famous for the excellent beaches and vibrant night life.
