Golden Bay is one of New Zealand’s best kept secrets, and a great family get away spot. Surrounded by National Parks filled with neat tracks, rivers, beaches and swimming spots - it is a playground for the whole family. We have created our family "Pedal, Paddle & Explore" holiday with things that we would like to do with our own family - for families who like to get out and about on their feet, bikes and on the water when they holiday together.

We start and finish in Nelson City and head into gorgeous Golden Bay and Abel Tasman National Park. We have chosen easy to moderate biking and walking tracks in a variety of locations and laced the trip with fun stuff to keep the kids tuned: find a rare New Zealand giant Kauri snail, search for kiwi by torchlight, and check out the wildlife sea-kayaking in the gorgeous Abel Tasman National Park.

At the end of each day we stay in some neat spots with picnic BBQ meals, hot showers, and fine wine and cold beers (for Mum and Dad). Biking options on three days of the trip vary from mellow country roads to fun, smooth purpose-made mountain biking tracks. Hills are optional. The trip is ideal for families who LIKE biking!
Walking options on three days of the trip vary from gentle strolls up to 4 hour hikes. All the walks lead to remarkable locations.

Sea Kayaking one day of the trip - in and around the stunning beaches and coastline of Abel Tasman National Park and include water taxi transfers. Prior experience is not necessary. A good level of fitness will add to the enjoyment of your trip. At various parts of the journey you will have the choice of a more or less challenging biking or walking options to suit your abilities.
