Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive Tunis. Land at Tunis International Airport under your own arrangements. On arrival you will be met by a our representative and transferred to your hotel. Day 2: Carthage, Sidi Bou Said, Tunis. Begin the day with a guided tour of the ruins of ancient Carthage. Visits will include Byrsa Hill, the Tophet, the Punic Ports and Antonine Baths, then continue to the picturesque village of Sidi Bou Said for lunch. This afternoon an immersion in medieval North Africa awaits you this morning when you walk through the thronging souqs inside Tunis’s walled medina. Day 3: Bulla Regia and Dougga. Some of the greatest treasures of the Roman world lie inland from Tunis in what was the ancient province (and former kingdom) of Numidia. First visit Bulla Regia, once capital of the 2nd century Numidian king Micipsa, and see the well preserved Roman underground villas; then this afternoon continue to the nearby UNESCO World Heritage Site of Dougga, and explore what are arguably the finest Roman ruins in Tunisia. Day 4: Bardo Museum, Port El Kantaoui. Arrive Sousse. This morning visit Tunis’ famed Bardo Museum where a world class collection of brilliantly executed Roman mosaics and sculpture is on display, then drive to the marina of Port El Kantaoui for lunch (payable locally). In the afternoon continue the short distance to Sousse, a town noted for its white sandy beaches and impressive UNESCO World Heritage listed walled medina, for a walking tour through the old city and visit to the Ribat fortress. Accommodation: Stay for 4 nights at the Movenpick Resort & Marine Spa (2 Sea View Rooms)/Movenpick Resort & Marine Spa (Terrace Suite & Sea View Room). Day 5: Kairouan and El Djem. After breakfast, drive to Kairouan, a city revered as the fourth holiest site in the Muslim world. On arrival visit the fortress-like Great Mosque of Obka with its distinctive square minaret, then enjoy a walking tour of the historic souqs. Following lunch with a local family return to Sousse via the magnificent Roman amphitheatre at El Djem. The structure is in a better state of preservation that the Coliseum in Rome. Below ground the visitor can walk through the tunnels and dungeons that once held wild animals and gladiators. Day 6: Sousse. Today will be at leisure in Sousse. Day 7: Sousse.
