Rafting on the Dunajec River remains one of the most famous attractions of the region, experienced by thousands of tourists every year.During the trip visitors have the opportunity to see the knights' castle of Niedzica, which stuns with both its size and an impressive interior decoration. The Dunajec River Gorge is a stretch of the river that constitutes a natural border between Poland and Slovakia, extending between steep slopes in a rocky ravine.
The trip starts in Sromowce-Katy and is carried out under the supervision of two experienced raftsmen wearing traditional folk costumes. Participation does not require any special preparation of equipment. Each raft consists of five tightly linked wooden canoes, with the capacity of up to 12 people. The trail is 18-kilometers long; it is an unforgettable experience, not only because of the magnificent landscapes around. It is followed by a visit to the Knights' Castle in Niedzica. The edifice, which was erected in the early 14th century atop a hill at a height of over 550 meters, looms over the region.
Throughout its history, the castle has often changed hands. Its subsequent owners transformed it from a fortress to an impressive Renaissance residence; its history overflows with legends.
Since the white-water rafting is carried out along a mountain river between rocks, it is recommended that the participants bring some extra outerwear. It is possible to rent life-jackets. Rafting takes 2 and a half hours without a break.
