This birding excursion takes you to the IBA and Ramsar site which regularly supports 20,000–50,000 roosting water-birds. Early in the morning we set out for the Lutembe Bay birding experience. Here you will catch water, grassland and woodland birds.
Among the birds one must hope to see include several species of sunbirds like: Marico Sunbird, Scarlet-chested sunbird, Green-headed Sunbird, Green-throated Sunbird, Blue-breasted Bee-eater, Cape Wagtail, Africa Wattled Lapwing, Senegal Lapwing, Yellow-throated Longcraw, Yellow-browed Camaroptera, White-headed Saw-wing, White-browed Scrub-robin, Brown-backed Scrub-robin, Lead-coloured Flycatcher, African Green Pigeon, Black-necked Weaver, Holub's Golden Weaver, Speckle-breasted Woodpecker, Africa-Pygmy Kingfisher, just to mention but a few, Collared Pratincole, Little-ringed Plover, just to mention but a few. Regular waterfowl counts since 1993 which show a total of 108 water bird species at the site, of which 26 are Palearctic migrants and its ability for regularly supporting thousands of roosting water birds, qualified it both an IBA and a Ramsar Site.
