Some time ago Rustaq was the Oman's capital. It is still one of the largest towns in the Sultanate. Here we are going to visit one of the most Rustaq Fort which is beautiful, oldest and tallest in Oman. It was named as Qalat Al Kisra after the Persian who controlled the land in the seventh century, the Rustaq Fort is the best in Oman with a scenic drive up the Batinah Coast, surrounded by watchtowers built in the thirteenth century. There is a mosque, weapons room, a prison and reception area in the fort. Here we look at hot spring falaj runs through the fort to supply water to its long gone inhabitants. The local Omani people are very friendly and they still do traditional agriculture here. Looking after their Oasis and the local water springs is quite difficult job.

We then drive on the excellent road through Wadi Fara, skirting the foothills of Jabal Shams and Jabal Akhdar, for an option to visit Nakhal Fort which has the status of one of the world's most spectacular forts. Nakhal is very famous for mineral-laden hot springs. The fort is located on a strategic rock bed, in a gorge and surrounded by mountains. It was built in pre-Islamic times possibly around the early part of the fifteenth century. Completed with large storage rooms, falaj and a deep brakish well, it was considered impenetrable by local tribes. Visited in connection with the hot springs and bathing pools, which is believed to aid medical ailments, close by at Ain A'Thawwarah it provides a great day out.
