Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive Arusha (via Nairobi or Mt. Kilimanjaro International) and transfer to Arumeru River Lodge for overnight. Meet and greet safari briefing upon arrival at the lodge or the following morning before starting out. Day 2: After breakfast, depart for the private tented camp situated along the boundary of Tarangire National Park. During the dry season from July to November, animals concentrate along the Tarangire River, which provides the only permanent water supply in the area. As many as 6,000 elephants inhabit Tarangire during the dry season. Tribal visits and walking in the area neighboring Tarangire is offered to those wanting a cultural experience. Learning about their history is as fascinating as are the views from the several hilltops in the area. You'll also have the ability to game drive the area neighboring Tarangire. Meals and Overnight at the Camp. Day 3: Enter Tarangire National Park with picnic lunch and game drive the entire day. Dinner and overnight at the Camp. Day 4: After breakfast we'll drive across the Rift Valley to Lake Manyara National Park. If lucky, we may see the Manyara lions, known for their tree climbing habits. Elephants, hippos, giraffe, buffalo and other plains animals are present at Manyara. You'll also see the famous jungle where early Tarzan movies were filmed. Birdlife in Manyara is also very impressive. Picnic lunch in the park, with dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro farm house in Karatu, well known for it's friendly service, outstanding accommodation and excellent cuisine. Day 5: After breakfast, we proceed to Ngorongoro with picnic lunches, for game drives in the Crater. This "eighth wonder of the world" contains one of the most spectacular game haunts in Africa. Permanent availability of water and grass make game viewing excellent any time of the year. Birdlife is prolific with flocks of flamingos on the soda lake. Dinner and overnight at the Camp. Day 6: Full day crater tour with accommodation at the Camp. Day 7-11: After breakfast we drive to Serengeti National Park, stopping at Olduvai Gorge along the way. This is where the Leakey's discovered the remains of Homo Erectus, bringing crucial understanding to the study of the evolution of man. Serengeti is the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the world, where the great migration begins and ends. Numbers of up to 1.5 million wildebeest and zebra inhabit the area. The Kopjes, massive islands of granite standing in a sea of grass, provide shelter to a great variety of animals including lions, and the ever elusive leopard. We will spend our first and last nights at the Serengeti serena lodge, staying in private camps the other three nights. The camp areas will depend on the season and movement of animals. Campsites include Moru kopjes, Lobo, Seronera and the western corridor near the Grumeti River. Day 12: After breakfast we'll drive to Seronera Airstrip for our scheduled morning flight to Arusha. Upon arrival in Arusha, those departing from Nairobi will be transferred back for their flights, having a lunch stop along the way. Those departing from Kilimanjaro will have lunch, and a day use room where they'll be able to take a shower and prepare for their transfer to JRO for their return flight.
