Seven days of riding along winding roads on impressive mountains with breathtaking scenery. The Pyrenees range covers an area of about 450 square kilometers, from the ocean in the west to the Mediterranean Sea in the east and acts as a natural border between France and Spain. An excursion in these mountains brings us in contact with alpine scenery, lakes, streams, mighty waterfalls and cliffs, all creating a magnificent backdrop to the unique cultures which developed in the region due to its isolation in the heart of the range. The various peoples living in the area were cut off owing to the difficulty of crossing the mountains, and developed their own folklore, habits and even languages, thus adding an additional flavor to the magnificent landscape. The winding roads, high mountain passes and the beautiful routes are a natural fun-fair for lovers of this genre.
- At the beginning of each day the riders receive a briefing, carefully going over the route and important points.
- There will be a link-up at all important crossroads so that no one gets lost.
- It is possible to supply the lead-bike with a GPS
- The bikes will be accompanied from the rear by a guide in a logistics vehicle so that not everything need be carried by the riders on the bikes.
Day 1: We will ride along the Collsecabra Mountain Range, characterized by steep cliffs, impressive forests, isolated farms but mainly the wild natural scenery at its best. We will go along a winding way which does not appear on any map towards the village of Rupit, a small medieval village. After wandering along the picturesque alleys and ancient buildings, we will come to our lodging in the vicinity. This is an isolated mountain area which is actually the beginning of the Pyrenees Mountains. Kilometers per day: about 120. Lodging: a hotel in the vicinity of Rupit.
Day 2: We will set out towards Andorra (in general, we are opposed to entering Andorra for shopping, but motorbike equipment is available at very good prices and if you have specific things in mind, it is a great value for money stop). From Andorra we will continue to the Noguera Pallaresa Valley. This is a day with a great deal of riding along twisting and winding mountain ways. Time permitting we will also go along a precipitous road leading to some beautiful isolated villages. Kilometers per day: about 250. Lodging: a hotel in the Noguera Valley region.
Day 3: In the morning, depending on conditions and personal requests, we will take part in one of the following activities:
1. A visit to the Aiguas Tortes National Park – one of the most beautiful parks in the Pyrenees. We will climb to a height of over 2000 meters to lagoons and glaciers, after which we will descend to the town of Espot.
2. Rough and exciting rafting on the Noguera Pallaressa River.
No previous experience is needed in order to take part in the rafting and participation is not mandatory (but definitely recommended...).
What awaits us next is a challenging ride on twisting mountain roads, passes and many bends...Some of the passes are at a height of over 2000 meters. Towards evening we will reach the Valley of Aran – an isolated valley in the heart of the Pyrenees where they speak their own language. Kilometers per day: about 90. Lodging: In the Aran Valley. Dinner: a restaurant in the village.
Day 4: This is another wonderful day with a great deal of riding on the winding roads. We will leave the Valley of Aran passing amazing landscapes, proceeding via the Col de Portillon to France, to the other side of the Pyrenees range. We will again be going over several passes. Today, we will visit one of the most amazing natural phenomena of the Pyrenees, the glacier and waterfall of Gavarnie. The site itself is considered one of the most beautiful in the Pyrenees, which alone justifies the visit, but the views en route are breathtaking as well. At Gavarnie those who desire can walk to the glacier/waterfall with the guide, but those who prefer can wait in the village. However, the Cirque de Gavarnie must be seen! From there we will continue on to Lourdes. Kilometers per day: about 250. Lodging: in the vicinity of Lourdes.
Day 5: Today we will carry on, again on mountain roads, to visit the waterfalls at the Pont d'Espagne. Here too the waterfalls are breathtaking and the route is sufficiently glorious in itself to justify the trip.
Next we are in for a ride along one of the most beautiful roads in Europe, circling the Col de Soul, winding our way through several mountain passes, fantastic landscapes and challenging riding. Towards noon we will proceed to the Spanish border (fear not! This too is on twisting mountain roads), and come to the village of Torla. Kilometers per day: about 180. Lodging: In the vicinity of Torla. Dinner: A restaurant in the village.
Day 6: We will set out in the morning to visit the parks of Ordesa and Monte Perdido- translated as ´the lost mountai´. This is one of the most famous parks in the Pyrenees. After the visit we will continue along some winding roads and some shorter and faster roads (not highways, but you will be able to put on a little speed) towards the Alt Orgueil.
We will spend the night in the Alt Orgueil, a wild region almost unknown to foreign tourists. Kilometers per day: about 300 Lodging: at a hotel in the area.
Day 7: We will proceed to the Monserrat Mountain to enjoy some quality riding along the winding road leading to the serrated mountain with the unusual shapes indigenous to the region, and almost resembling a moonscape. The way up the mountain offers some of the most glorious views, with observation points overlooking the whole region. After this visit we will head towards Barcelona to return the bikes, and back to town. Kilometers per day: about 120
