Day 1: Welcome to Colombia! Bogota sits over 8,000 ft above sea level and enjoys fresh cool weather year round. We meet you at the airport and travel together to La Candelaria, the historical center of town, where your hotel is conveniently located.
Day 2: Our first day will be spent in the Colombian capital, we’ll wake up early to begin our city tour to Monserrate, the historic district of La Candelaria, Plaza Bolivar and the world famous gold museum.
Day 3: Villa de Leyva is considered one of the most beautiful colonial villages in Colombia, famous for its cobblestone streets and grand colonial houses. After we’ve checked into our hotel, it's time to giddy-up as we explore the surrounding area on horseback. We'll see everything from blue lagoons and desert ruins to ancient fossils.
Day 4: Arriving to Zipaquirá, we visit the largest underground cathedral in the world located 200 meters below the Earth's surface in an abandoned salt mine. Built in 1954, Zipaquirá was constructed completely out of salt and is considered one of the greatest religious monuments in the world.
Day 5: In the morning we catch a flight to Ciudad Milagro (Miracle City), located in the heart of Colombia’s coffee-growing region, it is also often referred to as Armenia. Then we head south to the Valle de Cocora, an area famous for its towering wax palm trees, which can reach heights of over 150 feet. We’ll spend three hours or so hiking through the enormous cloud forest before heading to the small town of Salento in the afternoon.
Day 6: Today is free to enjoy as you please. Salento is an outdoor lovers paradise and with so many activities to choose from, you won't be disappointed.
Day 7: This morning we head to the airport for your short flight back to Bogota where we'll catch our connecting flight to the beautiful coastal city of Santa Marta. Get your sandals out! The distinct Caribbean heat is felt immediately upon arrival to Santa Marta so you'll want to dress for the heat. The hotel is located in a protected area and is the epitome of virgin Caribbean beaches, tucked among the thick tropical jungles you find your thatched roofed cabaña a stones throw from the beach below.
Day 8: Tayrona National Park opens at 8 a.m. and we suggest arriving early. Tayrona is famous for it's boulder strewn beaches which create little secluded bays such as beautiful El Cabo beach. There are no vehicles permitted inside the National Park making for a clean secluded atmosphere.
Day 9: Enjoy breakfast today overlooking the beaches of paradise. We leave this ecological highlight for a cultural one. Cartagena, a UNESCO world heritage site also known as The Pearl of the Caribbean. An hour outside of Cartagena we make a small detour for a unique dip in a mud volcano. Cover yourself from head to toe to get the full effect of its healing properties. After rinsing off enjoy a cold beer with your tasty lunch.
Day 10: Today is at your leisure, choose from a variety of activities. Take a city tour and visit the tourist highlights learning of the cities history. Take a short boat ride to Baru in the Rosario Islands where you enjoy beautiful white sand beaches or a local aquarium full of marine life and animal shows. The city is full of gorgeous hotels, designer boutiques, local art shops, and numerous plazas perfect for people watching. Enjoy a complimentary Salsa lesson tonight at your hotel.
Day 11: It's time to say goodbye to the Caribbean and to Colombia. You are transferred to the airport where you will check-in for your flight back home.
