Day 1: Ride: Fukuoka to Hita. 70-80km. Rolling terrain on quiet roads through rice paddies and farmland. Then, one small mountain climb on a beautiful one lane road along a small river. Stay at a local ryokan in Hita. (optional visit to Sapporo Beer Factory) Day 2: Ride: Hita to Yufuin. 60-70km. Rolling terrain with to big mountains. Shorter day but difficult. As an option we can drop off our bags at the ryokan, climb Mt. Yufu and/or do some sightseeing in Yufuin which is famous for their onsens. Stay at a local ryokan in Yufuin and enjoy their hot spring baths. Day 3: Ride. Yufuin to Beppu. 30-40km. Rolling terrain. Big steep climb out of Yufuin over the back side of Mt. Yufudake. Crazy fast, fun descent into Beppu. Enjoy site seeing, hot springs and onsens. Day 4: Ride. Beppu to Oita. 50km. Beautiful single lane roads through the mountains overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Enjoy Oita City's Miyako Machi night life and Oita castle ruins. Day 5: Ride: Oita to Saiki. 70km. Mostly flat along quiet roads, through small fishing villages next to the Pacific Ocean.
