Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive Muscat, Oman Land at Muscat International Airport under your own arrangements (Please advise us if you would like a quotation for flights from the UK). On arrival you will be met by a Corinthian Travel representative and transferred to your chosen hotel. Accommodation: Stay for 2 nights at the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort And Spa (Al Bandar, Deluxe Room)/ Al Bustan Palace Hotel (Al Bustan Lagoon Room). Day 2: Muscat Discover the Omani capital of Muscat, one of the most interesting and attractive cities in the Arabian Peninsula. The half day tour will visit the exquisite Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Muttrah’s busy fish market and atmospheric souq, then concludes in old Muscat where you will see the twin Portuguese forts of Jalali and Merani (outside), the Al Alam Palace (outside), and the Bait Al Zubair Museum. The afternoon will be at leisure. Day 3: Wadi Arbaeen, Wadi Tiwi, Sur, Arrive Wahiba Sands Set off this morning along the scenic coastal road to the ancient maritime centre of Sur. Stop for coffee at the old port of Quriyat, then enter the wild and dramatic valley of Wadi Arbaeen with its sheer towering cliffs for an off road adventure. Next, visit Bimah Sinkhole, then continue to idyllic palm lined Wadi Tiwi for a picnic lunch. On arrival at Sur, explore the dhow boatyards, then drive to your camp in the Wahiba Sands and watch sunset over the desert dunes. Accommodation: Stay for 2 nights at the 1000 Nights Camp (Sheikh Tent) / Desert Nights Camp (Deluxe Tented Suite). Day 4: Cross the Wahiba Sands to Ras al Ruwais Visit a Bedouin family for coffee today, then cross the magical parallel dunes of the Wahiba Sands from North to South, a desert experience par excellence. Towering up to 150 metres in height, and coloured in soft pastel shades from apricot to flaming salmon, the Wahiba Sands were made famous by the exploits of explorer Sir Wilfred Thesiger and for many visitors represent the quintessential image of Arabia. The highlight of the day is arriving at Ras al Ruwais where the sands plunge directly into the Arabian Sea. Day 5: Sinaw, Diana Point, Four Villages Walk, Arrive Jebel Akhdar After an early start arrive at Sinaw in time to see the lively Thursday camel auction and Bedouin market. Next, drive on to the lovely oasis of Birkat Al Mawz, then climb up into the magnificent Jebel Akhdar mountains and admire the view at Diana Point (a favourite of the late Princess of Wales). This afternoon enjoy the ‘Four Villages’ walk from Al Aqur to Sayq through some of the most picturesque countryside and mountain settlements in Oman. Accommodation: Stay for 1 night at the Sahab Hotel (Deluxe Room) / Sahab Hotel (Balcony Terrace Room). Day 6: Nizwa, Jebel Shams, Wadi Al Ayn, Arrive Hail al Shas Drive to Nizwa this morning to witness the vibrant Friday cattle auction - one of the highlights of any holiday in Oman. Next, explore Nizwa’s colourful souq and visit the town’s magnificent 17th century castle, then drive to Jebel Shams (Oman’s tallest mountain) to see the stunning thousand metre deep ‘Grand Canyon’ of Wadi Nakhr gorge. Complete the day’s sightseeing with a visit to the intriguing Bronze Age beehive tombs at Wadi Al Ayn, then check-in at your mountain camp. Day 7: Al Hamra, Bilad Sayt, Wadi Bani Awf, Rustaq, Arrive Muscat This morning visit the 400 year old Bait Al Safa house in Al Hamra, then climb up into the Hajar mountains and walk through the beautifully located mountain village of Bilad Sayt. A spectacular descent through Wadi Bani Awf will bring you to Rustaq; this amazingly scenic serpentine road is often described as one of the best off-road experiences in Oman. At Rustaq explore the enormous pre-Islamic fort and visit the hot springs, then continue to Muscat. Accommodation: Stay for 2 nights at the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort And Spa (Al Bandar, Deluxe Room) / Al Bustan Palace Hotel (Al Bustan Lagoon Room). Day 8: Muscat Today will be at leisure in Muscat. In the afternoon there will be an optional opportunity to take a coastal dhow cruise or enjoy dolphin watching in the Gulf of Oman.
