Find your spirit of adventure and join us on the ‘wild side’. Itinerary: Day 1 Arrival Arrival at Kajaani airport. Transfer (approx. 1,5 hour) to Hotel Kalevala in Kuhmo. Day 2 Husky trekking We start the adventure with a visit to a local husky farm where we hear about the life of huskies and farmers. Then we set off for a 3-hour trekking tour with our four legged friends. Each participant gets a husky tied with a leash on a special belt around the waist. As the huskies are very human friendly it won't take long to make friends with them. After returning to the farm we have a short ride with husky scooters. We stand on the scooter pulled by two huskies around the circuit! Day 3 Forest Survival This is a two-day Forest Survival quest! The Survival Camp is on an island reached by bike (12 km) and some 8 km on canoe. After landing on the island, we set up a Lappish tepee for our base for overnight. (Some tents will be also provided!) During the afternoon we learn some skills, like how to light a fire without matches and how to fish for supper. Dinner is then prepared by all around the camp fire. After a long exciting day, sleep comes easy, snug in sleeping bags under the tepee or in tents. Day 4 Back to the real world Before leaving the island, we enjoy an outdoor breakfast and for those who want, a morning swim. Once the gear is packed it’s time to return the way we came. Dinner at the hotel. Day 5 Bear watching Free morning. Hotel provides for rent eg. bicycles, rowing boats, canoes and kick boards and for free use outdoor games such as badminton and frisbee. There is also a possibility to visit Petola Visitor Centre which is an information center on Finland’s large carnivores – bear, wolf, lynx and wolverine. In the afternoon we set off for an exciting overnight bear watching excursion. During the night we can observe and photograph bears from the safety of purpose built hides. Return to the hotel in the morning. Day 6 Optional activities and Wilderness Olympics The last day of the adventure is for optional activities. You can choose between hiking, cycling, rowing and fishing. During the afternoon we will compete at the Finnish Wilderness Olympics.
