Girona, which lies along the river Onyar is an interesting town to visit in Catalonia. Girona has known many upheavals and has come under the influence of many cultures over the two thousand years of its history, due to its strategic position. The Sephardic Jewish quarter, where the great Rabbi known as the “Ramban” used to live long before the Sephardi Jews were driven from Spain, has been restored, and remnants of Sephardic Jewish community life as it used to be can be observed.
This tour will take you for a walk through the Old Sephardic Jewish quarter, where you will be able to see how the Sephardic Jewish heritage became a fundamental and inseparable part of the story of the city. After visiting the old city of Girona we will go on to Besalu, a picturesque medieval village – an ancient stone bridge, the church towers and a stream surrounding the whole give the visitor the feeling that time has simply stopped. It is very interesting to see that here too there are traces of the Sephardic Jewish life there used to be in the region. The ritual bath which we will visit was discovered during an archaeological dig is known as probably one of the earliest in Europe. Notes: Price Includes:
