Accommodation: Our cycling holiday in the Cotswolds and London includes 3 nights accommodation in a small hotel in the centre of London and in a tea room in Chipping Campden, an old inn in Burford and a small hotel in the heart of Oxford. Our choice of London hotel provides you with an ensuite bedroom and your own small kitchen but does not include breakfast. Cycling mileage: 3 days of gentle cycling 21 - 26 miles (34 - 42 km) per day or 32 - 39 miles (51 - 62km). Grade out of 5 based on distance and elevation: 2 or 3. Terrain: A few slopes. Traffic free: 10%, very low traffic on the rest. This tour combines a three night stay in London with idyllic cycling in the Cotswolds - two contrasting pictures of quintessential England. London needs little introduction, except that we hope with our suggestions for exploring the city you will find real London and discover what makes this great city tick. The Cotswolds are designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with mellow wolds or hills intersected by gurgling rivers. This gives a tapestry of picture postcard villages, honey coloured stone cottages and sheep clad slopes dusted with beech woods. Cycling the leafy back lanes and staying in characterful Chipping Campden and Burford, you will experience rural England at its very best. And with your final night in historic Oxford at the gateway to the Cotswolds, what more could you ask of England? Options: Additional nights in Oxford. Additional nights in London. Guided or self guided bike rides in London. Tour Itinerary: Day 1: London Arrive in London and check into your hotel located in the centre of this great metropolis. The next three days are yours to explore London in the way you choose. We will provide you with our suggestions for seeing the best of what's traditional, discovering what's less known but inspirational and rubbing shoulders with the locals whilst enjoying real London. Of course we think cycling on our traffic free routes is the best way to see much of hidden and popular London and we can offer you a choice of guided or self guided rides as an optional extra. Day 2: London Enjoy London. Day 3: London Enjoy London. Day 4: London to Chipping Campden, 21 or 35 miles (34 or 56 km). Today you head into the glorious Cotwolds with a train ride to Kingham. Mid morning our host we will meet you at the station there with your bikes, brief you on the itinerary and transfer your luggage. Then you are off to pedal leafy lanes and charming villages. and be inspired by the wonderful garden at Hidcote Manor. Then freewheel down into the Cotswold gem of Chipping Campden where you stay the night. The longer ride also takes you to the picture postcard village of Broadway. with a climb up the Cotswold scarp past Snowshill Manor for a panoramic vista of the area. Day 5: Chipping Campden to Burford, 26 or 32 miles (42 or 51km). Soak up the history and the arts and crafts heritage of Chipping Campden before riding south today. Your route leads through classic Cotswold landscapes- a land of honey coloured stone cottages in timeless chocolate box hamlets. Stop for a postcard or two in the market town of Morton in Marsh and perhaps a coffee in a designer farm shop. Enjoy gurgling streams, cosy pubs, grand views and tiny bridges before arriving in the former Cotswold woollen capital of Burford, still a bustling but unspoilt market town today. To include Stow on Wold, the idyllic villages of the Slaughters and Bourton on Water, take the longer ride. Day 6: Burford to Oxford, 26 or 39 miles (42 or 62 km). The ride from Burford takes you along the utterly charming Windrush valley to pretty Minster Lovell and then through the Cotswold market town of Witney with its old mills and historic farm. From here the landscape gradually changes as you reach the Thames meadows and the Oxford Canal for an easy and rural pedal into the very heart of the historic and stunning university town of Oxford. Your hotel is in the centre of the town and surrounded by Oxford colleges. The longer ride takes you further into the Cotswolds from Burford to the tiny Leach valley with its string of picturesque hamlets. Day 7: Oxford to London There is so much to explore in Oxford, that a day may not do it justice. However, at a time to suit you, we will transfer you back to London by train or to Heathrow by direct bus. Notes: Price Includes:
