Grade out of 5 based on distance and elevation: 2 Terrain: Sloping This tour combines a three night stay in London with idyllic walking in the Cotswolds and exploring Shakspeare's world in Stratford - three contrasting pictures of quintessential England. London needs little introduction, except that we hope with our suggestions for exploring the city you will find real London and discover what makes this great city tick. The Cotswolds are designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with mellow wolds or hills intersected by gurgling rivers. This gives a tapestry of picture postcard villages, honey coloured stone cottages and sheep clad slopes dusted with beech woods. Walking the leafy footpaths and staying in characterful Bourton on water, Winchcombe and Broadway, you will experience rural England at its very best. And with your final night in Stratford, the home of Shakespeare, what more could you ask of England? Options: Additional nights in Stratford or London. Tour Itinerary: Day One - London Arrive in London and check into your hotel located in the centre of this great metropolis. The next three days are yours to explore London in the way you choose. We will provide you with our suggestions for seeing the best of what's traditional, discovering what's less known but inspirational and rubbing shoulders with the locals whilst enjoying real London. Day Two - London Enjoy London Day Three - London Enjoy London Day Four - London to Bourton on Water. 7 miles (11km). Today you head into the glorious Cotwolds with a train ride to Kingham. Mid morning our host we will meet you at the station there, brief you on the itinerary and transfer your luggage. Then you are off to walk some of the Oxfordshire Way as it threads through woodland and fields past tiny hamlets. Gorp at the marvellous view as you look over the Windrush valley before dropping down into Bourton on Water, where the river flows through the heart of the village. Sometimes described as the Venice of the Cotswolds, the village has your overnight stop located at its centre. Day Five - Bourton on Water to Winchcombe. 12 miles (20km). This is an idyllic day of walking as you follow the Windrush Valley this morning and discover yet more classic Cotswold villages. The footpath leads through sheltered woods before you take a very pretty descent down the Cotswold scarp with amazing views. Stop at Sudeley Castle if you wish, where many Royal tales can be told before relaxing in Winchcombe - an unspoilt small Cotswold town. Day Six - Winchcombe to Broadway. 10 miles (16km). Walking for much of the time below the scarp face of the Cotswolds, this is a genlte day -a lowland treasure of long views and tiny villages, of superb specimen trees and individual buildings that make you pause and wonder. There's splendour, peace and finally the bustle of Broadway where you will spend the night Day Seven - Stratford on Avon This morning we will transfer you the short distance to Stratford where you will find your overnight stay in the heart of the riverside town From here you can explore Shakespeare's world by visiting his family's 5 houses (entrances included), discoverng the town where he grew up and enjoying one of his plays at The Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
