Attractions:
This journey permits submerging in the green world southwest of Kavanayen through its savannas, rivers and mountains. The trip takes us to the Karuay and Möwak communities sharing beliefs, admiring skills, and learning about the simple and challenging world of the Pemón found in the heart of the Gran Sabana. Difficulty: Recommended only for people with experience and training in trekking, given that the last day there is a trip on foot (with porters) lasting 6 – 7 hours. Previous days, mainly imply water travel in motor canoe. Day to Day Program Day 1: Puerto Ordaz – Kavanayen Transportation from the city of Puerto Ordaz to Kavanayen. Arrival in the afternoon at the Kavanayen community. Here we can walk through the streets, visit the mission, and contemplate a unique landscape from the edge of the table top towards the south. Lodgings in an inn. Day 2: Kavanayén – Salto El Hueso – Kaway Meru – Kosöricö We leave the Kavanayen very early for Karuay in a 4 x 4 through a spectacular savanna decorated with tepuyes to the north and jungles to the south. We arrive at the Karuay River, we admire the Irawanaimo Waterfall and immediately in motor canoes, go downstream enjoying the short walks to transfer and that allow us to admire the Hueso and Kaway waterfalls as well as the Kormé and Kosöricö rapids. We camp in tents between the Kormé and Kosöricö. Day 3: Kosöricö – Unatöi Very early, after breakfast we continue our water travel and see how the Karuay volume increases with the Mowak River. Close to noon, we arrive at Unatöi port and walk 20 minutes till we arrive at the Unatöi village over a savanna outcrop that towers over the jungles surrounded by tepuyes. Unatöi is the most beautiful village in the region. We visit the church and we make camp after sharing with the Pemón families. Day 4: Unatöi - Apauken With a local indigenous guide, we take a simple journey to arrive at the Techinen Waterfall, one of the most imposing of the Gran Sabana. There on its red beaches, we bathe in waters of the Karuay and enjoy a country lunch. We return to the village, break camp, and say good bye to Unatöi, again heading towards the river. We navigate the Karuay to the Mowak, upstream. We arrive at Apauken and make camp (tents) to spend a spectacular night in front of the Surwa savannas, also in tents. Day 5: Apauken – Kusërakparü We break camp and share breakfast with Pemón families. The river adventure continues upstream in search of the Mowak headwaters. We arrive at Kusërakparü and admire the small sacred yucca with which the Makunaima taught the Pemón agriculture. Later we take one of the most beautiful walks of the Gran Sabana, to bathe in the crystalline waters of the Kümara Merü. We return to Kusërakparü, sharing with the Pemón guide in a day of fishing, which will provide dinner. Camping in tents. Day 6: Kusërakparü - Kavanayen After breakfast, we break camp and go towards Kavanayén through a path of jungles and savannas of great beauty. A long but well planned trek that takes all day. We lunch before the sacred Wayuwaden and arrive at Kavanayén, where we end our imposing Great Arekuna Journey. Dinner and lodgings in an inn. Day 7: Kavanayen – Puerto Ordaz After breakfast, we take a vehicle to the city of Puerto Ordaz. End of our services. The Program includes: - Transportation Puerto Ordaz – Kavanayen – Puerto Ordaz. - 2 nights lodging in an inn in Kavanayen. - 4 nights camping (includes tent) - All meals, from dinner the first day through breakfast the last day. - Local guides (Pemón). - 1 Porter per person (20 Kg baggage maximum) the last day of the journey. - Transportation en 4x4 from Kavanayen to Karuay and vice versa.
